Help! Vega just says 'Booting'

Can anybody help?

My new Vega with the R8 Rom was going fine. I wanted to use USB host mode, so read the forums and found Paul's app:

File name: com.modaco.vegausbmode.apk File size: 8.65 MB

I downloaded it and installed it, tried USB host mode and it rebooted, but couldn't find the USB flash drive I had connected. I tried again, but this time the USB app did not reboot. I tried slave mode and again it did not reboot. So I decided to reboot myself by turning the Vega off, then on again. But now when I try to turn it on it just says 'Booting...' and hangs.

What can I do? Bit soon to brick the Vega just by installing an app!

Appreciate any advice!

Try the fix in my sig (about r8 and USB modes), it should work!

Thanks Zebrahead ... will give it a go, although looks a little complicated!

Is this a known problem then? Why should Paul's app cause this - if there is a fault with it then why was it released? Bit worrying when an app can cause the Vega not to boot any more.

It is a known problem.

If memory serves, it worked in r7 but changes in r8 broke it. Since then Paul's MCR hasn't been developed any further and so the bug remains.

It's not so much of an issue as it was when r8 was released as there are various ROMs available now, all of which have been developed further than r8.

But anyway, the fix in my sig should work fine. It's not too complicated, it's exactly the same as what you'd be doing if you wanted to factory reset the device (but my method attempts to just fix the issue and keep your data ^^).

My fix, if it works, will just restore slave mode as it was before you tried the host mode stuff, data and all preserved. If it doesn't work, then the problem may be a bit more serious and you'll have to reset to either a backup you've made using Clockwork previously, or factory reset.

Having said all of this, don't panic - VEGA's are practically unbreakable (physical damage aside ^^)

Thanks Zeb. I think this is the road to take .. fix this for now, then look into a new rom. I bought the Vega with R8 already installed, so its all a learning curve now!

Thanks for your help, will have a go at this tomorrow night
