Android Screen Timeout, brightness and hardware power button

Hi there!

I recently bought a LG Optimus 2X, my first android phone. I am truly amazed with the speed and what it is capable of... I am also quite liking android... But to the point...

Every time I want to use the phone, I have to press the power button at the top to turn on the screen. I am not using any security lock pattern or code. When I am done I press it again to turn the screen off, or just leave it alone, and it turns itself off after the configured 15sec timeout.

What I am afraid is the durability of said power button... Will it survive being pressed that often? Isn't there any other way, like, for example, having one of those slide or pattern software locks and just have a brightness timeout? So the screen could be on, just not lit, and then light up after you unlock it?

Would like your opinion on this... This phone really "rocked my world" - prior to it I had a long lineup of symbian and windows mobile phones...

Cheers!!
