Guest finbaar Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 After making a big mistake and getting a SE X10 which proved to be a faulty piece of crap I needed a cheap android device. So what else to do but get another Blade as the original OLED one that I got at the beginning of October is now in the hands of Mrs finbaar. Anyway, I had it unlocked, rooted, clockwork mod installed and flashed in well under an hour. I decided to pick SS 5 as my new ROM as I wanted to return to it after SS 3 caused problems on my original Blade. Set up my phone but found it a bit laggy. It really did not like playing Destroyer II at all. So I ran Quadrant on both phones - my wife’s running Flb 10b and mine running SS 5 (not overclocked as I do not want this). Flb 10b destroyed SS 5 with a quadrant score of 748 whilst SS5 was only 475 (these may not be 100% accurate as I did not write them down but they are pretty near). So I put Flb 10b on mine, ran quadrant and got 748 and every thing was so much snapier. So I am now happy as Angry Birds etc runs really well. I have had Flb 10b running since 3 March on the OLED Blade (minus one day with SS 3) without a single problem so I will not leave for another Froyo ROM now - maybe gingerbread in the future. So those are my experiences. I am not saying one ROM is better than the other but I would like to know why Flb 10b is scoring much higher on Quadrant than SS 5 (hardware acceleration I suspect). Still it is a happy ending as my Blade was free with Tesco vouchers and Mrs finbaar is loving her first experience of Android, the Blade, mobile data and Angry Birds.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 have you installed the hardware acceleration on SS ? is stagefright enabled / disabled on the 2 roms ? you have to compare same things
Guest Roph Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 (edited) Quadrant also takes into account various media tasks like H.264 decoding. If you're using stagefright / hardware acceleration then the results will be skewed. The correct way to test between the two roms would to have the hw.accel and stagefright settings between them the same. Blade Buddy can help you do that easily. I prefer to have stagefright off, as it doesn't properly decode HE-AAC / HE-AAC v2. My quadrant scores suffer as a result, but game /emulator performance for me isn't affected. Guest Kerberos84 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 have you installed the hardware acceleration on SS ? is stagefright enabled / disabled on the 2 roms ? you have to compare same things How do you install hw acc??? (yes, i'm noobish...)
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Arent some phones just a bit faster than other anyway? Like spec might say the same - but the quality of the processor can be individual - some might not be able to clock so high - but newer ones might be better/worse quality etc. Though I spose such differences are minor
Guest iNoobz2Droid Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 I actually wanted to open up a similar topic today. I got my phone yesterday and flashed swedish spring r5 and quadrant give me around 500 points with no apps running in background even overclocked @710mhz i can't get up to 600 point (its 580 or something) while http://smartphonebenchmarks.com/ tell me that people got more than 800 @stock on similar powered devices what do others get @ stock using the quadrant benchmark?
Guest irishpancake Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 have you installed the hardware acceleration on SS ? is stagefright enabled / disabled on the 2 roms ? you have to compare same things Surely this is a Stagefright issue? (Don't call me Shirley  ) Is Sf not enabled in FLB 10, and any FLB above 9b? And not enabled by default on Swedish Springs, by default. Sf is broke on 2.2?? Quadrant just gives the wrong result when enabled with 2.2, AFAIK, almost doubling your score?? So, any 800/900 scores are simply incorrect, with 2.2.

Guest heavyduty00 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 quadrant scores dont really matter lol.
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 How do you install hw acc??? (yes, i'm noobish...) which rom do you use ?
Guest finbaar Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Thanks for the replies. Looks like I will stay with FLB 10b then for now until a completely stable 2.3 comes out (or I get a new phone - had a play with a Galaxy S2 today and oh lordy was it nice!).
Guest Pirttila Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 And hardware acceleration is enabled in SS but disabled in FLB, Angry birds are slower with hw acc, menus etc. 2D things too.
Guest Kerberos84 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 which rom do you use ? SS RLS5, is it in extra settings, hardware accelerated GUI?
Guest Phoenix Silver Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 SS RLS5, is it in extra settings, hardware accelerated GUI? exactly
Guest Kerberos84 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 exactly thx, tried it, and angry birds rio seems to go faster, there was a level with a framerate of like 2 or 3 or something, now it's fluid  me happy, thx all
