Docking Station Questions

Hi guys,

a few questions concerning the Vega docking station for those who have one of these units:

1. Does the Vega sit in this station vertically, or at a tilted viewing angle?

2. What mode are the 3 USB ports in (Host/Slave)?

3. Can any of the USB ports be switched, Host/Slave?

4. Is the HDMI port in ADDITION to the HDMI port already on the Vega, or is the one on the Vega disabled?

5. Is the 'speaker' socket a real speaker socket (low impedance) or is it a headphone socket (high impedance)?

6. The Curry's website says you can connect a mouse to one of the USB ports. Does this require an additional driver?

7. When in mouse mode, is the touchscreen disabled?

8. Any general comments on the station?

Many thanks

Rock

1. vertical with a slight backward tilt.

2/3. Ports are in Host mode. They cannot be switched although I have not tested with a switchable ROM.

4. I thought about HDMI at the weekend but didn't get to trying it. Would be interesting if both work at the same time, but you need two displays nearby to try it.

5. I have tried headphones and powered speakers in the dock - it seems to work the same as the headphone socket on the tablet. No specs are given on the impedence of the output.

6. Mouse works fine with no drivers although I would guess it may be as hit & miss as a mouse directly connected in Host mode - not all work. I tried a cheap Targus muse with no problem.

7. Touchscreen still works with mouse attached.

I find it very handy just to drop the tablet on to charge. I have bought a couple of extra PSU's from Argos at £10 each (link is elsewhere in the forum) as there is no PSU with the dock. If the tablet is in standby rather than off, a little blue light comes on at the bottom of the tablet when it approaches the dock to help alignment with the connector.

Many thanks Dave,

I guess it wont be too long before someone comes up with a docking station connector to USB adaptor. In the meantime I have now ordered the docking station from PCWorld.

One last question: is the power connector ONLY for recharging purposes, or do the USB connectors need it to supply power?

Not sure if power is needed for the USB connectors. I would guess not as long as whatever is plugged in doesn't draw much from the tablet. I will try and do a test tonight with a mouse.

Is it possible to get a docking station outside UK? It seems only available at Dixons/Currys/PCWorld which only send to UK customers...

If you ask nicely, someone might be willing to buy you one and post it to you. Would have to be paid via Escrow or PayPal to keep both parties happy.

That would be great, but don't know how to do it right...

Can you please tell me a bit more about that solution?
