Guest Matchstick Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Just went into O2 shop on New Street in the centre of Birmingham and they have SGS 2 instock on both contract and PAYGo but they're not on display yet. I picked up a PAYGo one and I've just stuck in my T-Mobile sim and it's worked with no problem. No sign of O2 branding on the handset, box or OS either.
Guest Paul Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Strange, i've just picked one up, it has an O2 splash and IS locked! P
Guest MonkeyBoy451 Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Strange, i've just picked one up, it has an O2 splash and IS locked! P Maybe they gave you a contract phone accidentally instead of a PAYG?
Guest Matchstick Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 (edited) Strange, i've just picked one up, it has an O2 splash and IS locked! P That is very strange !?! What are the details shown on the about page ? (From the rooting thread on XDA I know there are two firmware versions doing the rounds XWKDD & XWKDA) My details are Model GT-I9100 Android Version 2.3.3 Baseband Version I9100XXKDH Kernel Version 2.6.35.7.I9100XWKDD-CL161513 root@DELL103 #2 Build number GINGERBREAD.XWKDD (Screenshot available for the skeptical  ) Could it be that the XWKDD version is SIN unlocked and the XWKDA version is locked ? Need to find a "CDC Serial" driver for windows XP though, seemingly yet again Samsung have shipped kies without the correct drivers bundled meaning it won't work :o Though I do see there's what looks like a FOTA option under Settings/About/Software update which might make kies largely redundant. -- UPDATE -- I think I've solved the driver problem, I manually ran the USB driver install program (C:\Program Files\Samsung\Kies\USB Driver\SAMSUNG_USB_Driver_for_Mobile_Phones.exe) again but this time selected United States as the location. After that the CDC driver seems to be being picked up correctly and kies is now playing nicely. Edited May 3, 2011 by Matchstick
Guest Matchstick Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Exactly the same serial numbers on mine. P Ok, that's even stranger
Guest JamesKing Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 If people could please post in the poll here it would be appreciated: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1061706
Guest adamyounus Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Bought my pay as you go from Bradford town centre shop and its unlocked.
Guest zen123 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Strange, i've just picked one up, it has an O2 splash and IS locked! P I would take it back for refund as you have 14 days & buy one from another O2 shop to see if you get an unlocked one. Two friends but a payg from the same O2 shop at the same time & one was locked the other wasn't. Looking at the boxes ther's no indication of what version so its just luck I suppose

It makes me wonder why O2 refused to take my money to unlock the handset and told me I had to wait 12 months. Some companies make it so hard to give them money.

Guest Big_Vlad Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 It's out of stock in Cambridge. Could anyone about 25 miles radius get one for me? Will pay in cash...
Guest DarthOps Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Where are you managing to find stock, I've just checked every o2 shop in the central belt in Scotland (by phone!) and everywhere is out of stock, and the website doesn't even mention the SGS2 on payg!?!?

Guest Adam1511 Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Damn! Was wanting to go in to have a play with one tomorrow too. :/ Edited May 6, 2011 by Adam1511

I found what I think is the site you were linking to and unlocked my SGS2 within an hour of submitting the request. Very pleased... thanks
Guest Wesley29 Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 I was wondering if maybe the free unlocking method that was discovered for the Samsung Galaxy S will work with the Samsung Galaxy S II. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=761045 Has anyone tried this yet?
