Guest RockVacirca Posted May 3, 2011 Report Posted May 3, 2011 Hi guys, Wouldn't it have been just great if the Vega had both host and slave USB ports as standard? Well, they didn't, so we have been forced to come up with various scripts and kernel hacks to switch port mode, or get the docking station which gives us both. However, as the docking station demonstrates, you can have both type of USB ports at the same time. The Dell Streak uses the same connector as the Vega for docking, which uses the PDMI standard connector, and one disgruntled Dell owner, p***ed off by the high price tag for a PDMI to USB connector cable (it is UKP26.39 from Dell UK) decided to hack his own PDMI to mini-USB adaptor, video here. There is now a new player, Bizlink of Freemont, California, with factories in the Far East, promising a range of PDMI connectors and adaptors, for Q2 of 2011, including a PDMI-USB cable. Let's hope they price it better than the Dell money grubbers. Rock

Guest ptbw Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 This should do the trick from DealExtreme $4.40 including shipping! Just ordered one. I will report back when it arrives.
Guest Mattbisme123 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 How does the vega pdmi pin out compare to the galaxy tab?
Guest rilot Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I tested one of those dell cables a while back. Doesn't work. Well, I couldn't get it to work anyway.

It is a standard interface, so I don't see any reason why it wouldn't work. Perhaps the firmware version you were using didn't enable the docking station (PDMI) port?

Guest CrArC Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I was using RC8 from here with Corvus' kernel. My dock ports worked just fine. This cable didn't. I've got a Streak and immediately noticed the similarity between the dock connectors on both devices, but when I tried my Streak cable it wouldn't fit in the Vega's port. There are some tiny spines on the edge of the port that are set just slightly closer together in the Streak than they are on the Vega, stopping the cable from working.
Guest warriorscot Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 We don't really know its standard for sure it may not be connected up properly so that only certain accessories work it could have a software restriction built in. Lots of reasons why it might not work.
