OR you guys have already lost faith in Huawei?

I think most people have lost faith in huawei.

As far as i'm aware they STILL haven't released all the code(no idea what stuff it is) for the pulse which has hampered development of roms for it.

X5 is in the same price range as Motorola Defy, but Defy is clear winner for me.....

It should be at least 30% lower priced to even consider it as upgrade from U8230.

Pulse/U8230 was realy good priced phones with great screen, solid built, but X5 is

overpriced.

You can buy this phone new unlocked for 169.99 with 800 by 480 res 5mp camera with flash 2.2 standard and 720p video recording and playback support, not to mention flash 10 support, perhaps it is worth considering for the budget consumer?

Darkrose.

I choose a HTC Wildfire over that, similar price reliable company.

I wouldn't. The x5 has vastly superior specs. The wildfire is closer to the pulse for specs.

It's a shame they didn't include these emotion widgets for this phone

Ideos x5 has the same chip inside as Desire Z, as a matter a fact they are similar in other ways too. ram, storage.... these are pretty high specs for the price, but quality is quality, I have a ZTE blade and the screen started messing with me, I imported the phone so, now I'm stuck with a faulty screen... I would still give ideos a try if I could buy it in my country cheap and get at least a one year warranty.

Seems that carphonewarehouse are selling it at this price now

... I'm interested as well as I'm looking to move on from Pulse at some point soon-ish, want an ARMv7 CPU and <£200 is also probably the price I'm aiming for!

Carphone Whorehouse Huawei U8800

Here's the link. I'm tempted, but the ZTE Blade is still working too well for me. Maybe when the price hits £100 I'll buy one.

Might well say the same if I'd moved to the Blade but I'm still with the Pulse and while its great to have got CM6.1 running on it with no problems most of the time there are sufficient niggles (wifi not turning off properly or screen rotate locking both of which need a reboot every couple of days to fix) to be making me think its time to move on. With dual cores coming out now the "last generation" (i.e. about 6 months old!) phones may be due for a price realignment - maybe this cut is the sign of what's in store.

Quite appealing but without the hive mind of Modaco behind it surely the software side will become dated pretty quickly - look at what everyone managed to achieve for the Pulse, without them everyone would be running stock 2.1

I agree. Before getting another phone I'll definately be researching the communities that support the phone. The reason I've enjoyed my phone so much is Modaco which took me from Android 1.5 to CM7. :P

Just bought this phone, should be coming on Monday (hopefully). The specs are quite good for the price and it can be over-clocked to speeds of 1-1.5ghz (at your own risk :3). I've had the pulse for over one year...and it has been a great phone. Loved the community here and loved the support, however, the pulse is just getting too slow and clumsy for me now. I will be giving the pulse to my brother, so it's still in the family : D

There is a small community for the X5 on XDA forums, worth checking out. CM7 is currently being developed for it as we speak.

Be interested on hearing how the stock X5 ROM compares to a custom Pulse ROM.

I want to ask the question, which ones better, the x5 or the Defy? same processor speed, same camera spec, different GPU's.... tough one i think.

That depends on how much you want to spend I think. The defy costs more than the X5.

DEFY has gorrila glass, better GPU, and better build quality...... I would choose defy

Paul O'Brien got an IDEOS X5 today and he's saying a lot of good things about it. It appears to be extremely open and easy to hack. Looks like Huawei learned from the mistakes they made with the Pulse.

Any posts on this yet, or is PoB likely to put up a news article or review?

A further price drop closer to £120, or HotUK Deal or Quidco offer and I could tempted.
