Guest cpome7 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I've tried multiple downloads of corvus5.zip and transferred it to the sdcard in as many ways as I can think of, but I still keep getting this: "Writing boot image... assert failed:write_raw_image("/tmp/bootimg" , "boot") E:Error in /sdcard/download/Crvus5.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted. I know that this has been discussed elsewhere on the forum, but there doesn't seem to be a solution. Can anyone help? Thanks in advance.

Guest cpome7 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...l-lots-of-roms/ Was on page 2 Zeb I had read that post and indeed tried everything (including the the script asserts toggle). I still get the same ROM error. I could try downloading the zip again, but that would be the fourth time. If r8 installs perfectly via CWM and corvus5 will not then logically the problem would lie with the corvus5 zip. Grrrr etc

Guest pakomen Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Here is a strange thing , I have been unsuccessfully trying to get Corvus5 running on my Vega for weeks now using all the various methods..I dont have a problem with the Corvus 0.5 or some of the other roms, Anyhow my friend arrived with a new Vega today and asked me to pimp it up for him, so I install 1.09 then cwm and finally Corvus5 and low and behold up pops the 2 penguins and Corvus boots up as it should.. I take my own vega back to original.. update to 1.09 install cwm and try Corvus 5 using same file and my machine doesn't even load the 2 penguins. So i thought ..well the only thing different is the sd card..so I changed my card with the new one went through the procedures again and still my Vega fails to get to the 2 penguin stage..Anybody got any idea what is going on..is there a difference in the newer Vega or is my Vega faulty and needs to go back to pc world? Cheers Pako

Cheers Pako Just make sure you've done a complete wipe before installing Corvus and you shouldn't have any problems. If it doesn't get to the two penguins, can you tell me what happens exactly? Zeb
Guest newbe5 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) Which version of CWM are you using? Try these steps: 1) Download the Higgsy modded ROM and CWM installer from here.. Install the ROM as standard, then once booted, use the ClockworkMod installer to flash CWM. 2) Reboot into CWM using the recovery app. 3) Flash Corvus5. I just did this exact method on my Vega to be 100% sure and it worked great. So try this and let us know if it works. newbe5 Edited May 4, 2011 by newbe5

When my one reboots it just sits on illuminated black screen not even getting to the 2 penguin display.. cheers pako

Guest Zebrahead Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 I will try your method and let you know.. thanks for the reply cheers Pako This may not work - It appears the suggestion requires an adb conncection. If you're not even getting to bootscreen, I doubt you have one. The only thing I'd suggest is finding the boot img from the Corvus rom and flashing it using nvflash. Zeb

Higgsy rom installed ok CWM installed ok...went into recovery...wiped data..wiped cache..wiped dalvik cache and ran zip from sd card.. got to end of install...used back button to get to reboot and selected reboot, Still ended up with grey (black illuminated screen)..no penguins boot messages or anything else..machine just hangs. But friends new machine worked fine with same procedure.. I have previously tried with various versions of CWM and I always get the same result..although Corvus 0.5 works as does R8 and Higgsy..so something really strange going on somewhere.. Anyhow I am away to bed..maybe if i let it rest for 5 or 6 hours it will magically reboot ok.. Thanks for the suggestions. cheers Pako

I stumbled once over this problem, because with the bigger system partition there is of course less memory for data, so my nandroid backup did not work because the data partition was too small. You can try the following: Flash the stock ROM of pov Mobii V1.10 or Smartsurfer 360, that uses the bigger system partition and then flash the CorvusROM again. Maybe it boots with this partition size. But be aware that the pov Mobii switches the USB into host mode, so no access with ADB debug when this ROM runs.

Ok.after a sleep and a rest, I decided this morning to make a recovery image from my friends machine (with Corvus5 installed)using OneClickRestorer and then restoring it to my Vega. It looked like it was all going smoothly but when finished, the "entering nvflash recovery mode "message just remained on screen and the vega didn't reboot itself. Held off switch for 7 secs and machine shut down..switched on and again no sign of any activity apart from backlit screen. So ran recover in OneClickRestorer which had original rom from Friends vega and it restored OK. I tried this all over again with the same results.. I find OneClick Restorer very handy and have 3 or 4 versions of it in different folders on my pc with different rom versions in each..it has rescued me numerous times over the past few weeks.. Anyhow I will try the mobii rom Thanks all Pako

Guest Zaspath Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Just ignore the error and re boot!!! I have to say, after flashing back to stock 1.09 multiple times, then moving to MoDaCo R8 and Corvus5 at least 4 times with CWM and getting stuck with the same error, I bit the bullet and just restarted anyway, it worked. But I can't help but wonder if the boot image wasn't updated and it's just lucky that the previous ROM boot image was compatible. Zas.

I assume that if you nvflash the unit it replaces the boot image so when i backed up my friends vega and nvflash it to my machine, i would have thought that the nvflash procedure would have overwritten my non working corvus5 system with his working version(boot system and all). I might get a chance to install corvus5 over this Smartbook 360 rom at lunchtime. Again I appreciate all the suggestions. Pako

Guest the_corvus Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Some people points that using Rom Manager to install the zip fix the problem. Try it. Corvus.

Guest pakomen Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Some people points that using Rom Manager to install the zip fix the problem. Try it. Corvus. Hi Corvus, I did try rom manager method as well, last night made a nandroid backup of working machine and tried to restore to mine..it still didn't boot just backlight comes on. Corvus 0.5 works fine..there must be a change in the boot routine somewhere that seems to stop some vegas from working I wonder is it to a specific batch of serial numbers? Mine is P10AN010AB0602959 and purchased 12th March 11. It does freeze on angry birds and i am wondering is it faulty.. I installed corvus5 on my friends machine from new and it all went very smoothly..so I do know the procedure ok and have no usb issues with main pc...so still puzzeled!!!!! Again thanks for suggestions Pako
Guest beegee1962 Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Maybe this helps some people with flashing problems. Corvus5 inclusive CorvusKernel 0.2 for Advent Vega THIS FILE IS FOR FLASHING THE SAME WAY AS A STOCK ROM! I put together the latest Corvus5 ROM with the latest CorvusKernel 0.2 and prepared them as IMG files. This can be flashed like stock ROMs. Extract the ZIP file into a folder. Make sure your tablet is switched off! Connect the tablet to power and by USB to the PC. Hold the back button (keep it pressed all the time). After 2 sec press power button for 4 sec or until you hear the "USB connected sound" on your PC. Release power button (keep back button pressed) Release back button. Double click on "lvds.bat" to start installation. I do not take any responsibility if you brick your tablet, destroy important data or any other disasters.

Thanks for the file..but unfortunately still no joy. The pc goes through the process all successfull. then at end say hit any key to continue... my vega just sits with "entering nvflash" message on screen and doesn't auto reboot like other images sent this way So 6 second button press to shut down..then restart and nothing just backlit grey screen..Looks like I will have to settle with corvus 0.5 or r8 in the meantime, cheers Pako
