Guest skymera Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) I don't see the point in the Skate. Why make a low-end device with a 4.3" screen? It's heavily outdated and at £150 it's overpriced. Edited May 4, 2011 by skymera
Guest deksman2 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I don't see the point in the Skate. Why make a low-end device with a 4.3" screen? It's heavily outdated and at £150 it's overpriced. Well, I'd say I'm 50/50 on that one. For those who don't have the Blade for example, they'd be better off getting a Skate when it comes out, however, I see little to no point in upgrading to Skate from the Blade unless you need Flash and a larger screen (which are nice features, but nothing really revolutionary). I would for example jump to a smartphone which is relatively cheap but has dual core and a proper gpu. Now, ZTE might do this when quads come out to the market, but I seriously hope they don't continue along with the slow update pace. Waiting a year between 600 and 800 Mhz in CPU speed alone is a bit too much time (especially when over 1GHz models are out along with dual cores).
Guest KACE_231 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 The extra Hz mean nothing, the hardware and chipset on the blade is more efficient. I have seen videos of the Skate, in my opinion it is very laggy. Also I personally hate massive screens, my major issue with the top end phones which are all >4.0".

Where have you seen videos of the skate running a custom rom with launcherpro? Obviously you wouldn't compare a phone like the blade with a custom rom and launcher pro, to the skate which has a stock rom, stock launcher and at trade shows has been running for days on end.

It was running gingerbread stock ROM, with stock launcher. And I have tried the stock launcher as well and it is very smooth on the balde. check youtube and hardware architecture is significant, it is like comparing a Core 2 Duo and a Pentium 4 Extreme Edition. Clock speed the P4 wins hands down, but even the lowest clocked dual core proccessors are much faster. Edited May 4, 2011 by KACE_231

Furthermore, we cannot honestly compare custom made ROM's with stock ones. Heck, I had a custom RSL4b installed and the application drawer had an extreme lag to it (which was annoying - and demonstrates that even custom made ROM's aren't the best... but lag is predominantly software based, because prior to that version I used a ROM which had an immensely fluid app drawer). So, in terms of that, there's a possibility that Skate's performance will be fine with some custom ROMs

Must be worth upgrading to skate as the cpu is 800mhz so phone will be a lot smother with less lag.

No. It'd only pull like 10-11MFlops. I'd suggest people to find a cheap ARMv7 phone on eBay. 2011 is too late to keep buying and making ARMv6 Edited May 4, 2011 by skymera
Guest C3P001 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 yeah I dunno what ZTE were thinking I am sure the Skate will cost more than the Blade even if only a little more .... old tech. buy the Blade who needs a bigger screen ? not me my Blade's screen is fine if i wanted a bigger screen i would go much bigger and buy a tablet but for me those are not practical , Blade is fine for me for the price (I paid a little under 100 pounds) I am MORE than happy with it
Guest KACE_231 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 If the processors is still ARMv6 its not worth it at all.
Guest phil8715 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 If the processors is still ARMv6 its not worth it at all. I've heard rumours that the Skate will be out sometime in July.
Guest skymera Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 If the processors is still ARMv6 its not worth it at all. It's the same as the Blade. MSM7227, so yes, ARMv6 ¬.¬
Guest ricer Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I heard it was delayed because they were looking to upgrade the processor in it. Thats a rumour though and doesnt bear much weight.

Guest curl66 Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 a friend of mine goes to UK next. so if it available there please provide information... thanks
Guest agreenjesus Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 I think the Skate looks good if it's anything like the blade. My blade does everything I want it to at a price that means if I drop it down the toilet it wont be a major disaster. The idea of a faster processor & larger screen appeals to me, the blade is a little too small to watch movies. If I accidentally kill the blade I'll definitately consider replacing it with a skate.
Guest finbaar Posted May 10, 2011 Report Posted May 10, 2011 a friend of mine goes to UK next. so if it available there please provide information... thanks  The Skate has not been released anywhere yet. I don't think it will be out until July.
