Guest daffyswansea Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) I'm really sorry to post something which might have already been answered but i've literally been through every post  I've installed the latest version of the modaco ROM and everything worls perfectly except the Vega will not recognise any USB devices at all. The USB devices are getting power as I can see the lights etc and i have definitely put the vega into host mode. I have tried a number of devices like usb sticks and a HDD but i cant access any of them. Has anyone got any ideas?? Many Thanks. And if its any help, The icon doesnt show in filemanager to show a usb stick either, just the home, sd and file icons... Edited May 4, 2011 by daffyswansea

Guest simonta Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 You need to practice searching  You've swtiched to the USB mode to host?
Guest daffyswansea Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 By can't access them, where are you looking? Zeb Thanks for the reply, I've gone into filemanager to try to locate the files. I have tried all the different locations but cannot find anything. It doesn't even look like the usb stick is mounted as the icon is not showing at the top of the filemanager page. Many Thanks again.
Guest daffyswansea Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 You need to practice searching :D You've swtiched to the USB mode to host? Hi Simonta  I think i'm losing the will to live with the searching ha ha ha. Ive looked through virtually every file tree and just cant work out what to do. I'm really sorry if i sound stupid i've just been at it all day and its really getting me down now lol. Its the only thing left i need to do!! Thank you for your help anyway :o
Guest daffyswansea Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 And i'm positive it's in host mode. I even downloaded the widget for confirmation. I've tried 3 usb sticks and they are all the same.
Guest trevor432990 Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) Daffy, For our info can you go into SETTINGS > ABOUT DEVICE and tell us what it says in the KERNEL VERSION field please? Which directory are you looking for the USB device in? It should be in /mnt/usb/system_usb/ Edited May 4, 2011 by trevor432990

And that is exactly where i was searching for the drive files. There is nothing there at all. Edited May 4, 2011 by daffyswansea

Strange I'm on exactly the same kernel version as you and mine works (obviously) ..... have you tried rebooting the Vega since you swapped to Host mode yet? If not worth a try Edited May 4, 2011 by trevor432990
Guest daffyswansea Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 (edited) OK messages crossed one mo Yeah I did a Full Reboot after i switched modes. Its even more strange that the usb devices are receiving power just not being recognised. The main stick im using is a sandisk 2gb. But then again all of the are the same. Edited May 4, 2011 by daffyswansea
Guest Zebrahead Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 OK  How large are the devices? Particularly large ones may take a while to mount or may not mount at all. Is one of the devices an android phone? If so, make sure that you have it set such that when you plug it in it goes into USB mounted mode (instead of charging mode), by default. Zeb

OK those should be alright as I use a Sandisk 16GB Cruzer myself without problems. What files are on the sticks cos I wonder if you tried another app which allows you to browse for files if that might work where iFilemanager clearly hasn't ?

Zeb please pardon my ignorance Zeb, I dont know what you mean... All i'm doing is plugging the usb sticks into the vega and it will not recognise them. I dont know what more to do.

Yean mine is the cruzer as well, there are just some mp3 and jpeg files on the drive. Nothing shows up at all.

Just a guess at this time but it does sound like the USB drivers on the Vega are screwed somehow so you might need to rebuild the Kernel/ROM to get over it. Out of interest when you connect the Vega to your PC in Slave mode does that all work properly?

I just downloaded the latest revision of modaco and changed the driver as described and the installed the new rom. Have i missed something out or have i done it right??
Guest WWEpsp Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 i was getting problem with corvus5 and USB too try going to the aplication of USB mode, then select Host, it will reboot, when its finished dont do nothing just insert the USB you will see the USB stick light will flash, then go with ifilemanager(or other) on /mnt/usb/system_usb or /mnt/usbdisk

How did you install the new ROM was it with ADB or CWM ? Has the Kernel version now changed in settings? Sounds like you've done the right things but the proof will be if USB wakes up.

Guest shameful Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 Just a thought. What are the memory sticks formatted as? Fat32 or NTFS?

Guest Culbin Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I've got this problem too with the addition that my several USB sticks and my USB card reader were working previously and now have stopped being recognised altogether. They light up correctly but are never displayed. It's not that I'm looking in the wrong root path etc. I've tried everything. The USB devices work fine on my PC. Switching the USB from host to slave allows connection to my PC fine. I've got a docking station too and those ports don't work now either. Such a shame because if I could get over this hurdle the Vega would become my perfect device
Guest daffyswansea Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 All of my memory sticks are fat32. I mean this is the first day ive been using it so unlike others its not like it has been working then stopped!! To answer some questions, it works fine when in slave mode and connected to my pc. I undertook the update with adb i think. I had a nightmare getting my pc to recognise it as an android device. I eventually did but when i went to restore it and try installing the rom again now i just cant get the unit to be recognised as an android again!!!! If i can get the usb issue sorted i wont have to worry about re roming it then! What a nightmare! Might it have had something to do with the kernel that was installed previously?
Guest daffyswansea Posted May 4, 2011 Report Posted May 4, 2011 I managed to fix it in the end....... the usb sticks alll needed a full format. I found a really old 128mb stick i had years ago and that worked first time.. looks like all the hours i put in were a complete waste of time. Should have known it would be hardware related! Thanks for all the help though.
