How can I can access a bash shell to view the interntal file system of my android os.

I think one comes preinstalled in the standard android rom but if not is there an app I could download

I've tried one already ive found on the market place but it didn't seem to have the correct permissions needed to run even basic commands like df or dir

you need to install a terminal program and then all the programs like df separately. normally you install busybox.

Hi,

Terminal emulator works fine.

It contains df, but aamof I think df is available out of the box?

For advanced functionalities like ssh you'll have to install additional stuff.

you need to root your phone

you have 2 choices you upgrade to a 2.2 rom already rooted

you stay in stock 2.1 rom and then you need the app to root your phone

there is a mod of z4root somewhere in the forum to permanently root your phone (normal app you are rooted till next reboot)
