Guest zennit Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Hi Guys, i've had my vega little while now and love it but i'm at the stage where I would like to take it to the next level. The first thing I did with my vega was install the r8 rom and setup adw and installed all my favorite apps and i'm very happy with my current desktop layout and app settings. My first question is whats the best way to backup my current system so that I can if anything goes wrong get it back. My next question is whats the best way to install roms and switch between them so that if I install another rom say corvus but don't like it I can roll back to r8 exactly how I left it with all my apps widgets and adw settings. I have also reached the limit of my internal memory and would like to use link2sd but currently don't have an ext partion, what’s the best software to use for creating the partition? I tried downloading the clockwork rom manager from the app store but reading some of the threads on this board i've realized this isn't the way to install rom manager on the vega? What is the best/easiest way to get clockwork rom manager on the vega and does it allow you to switch roms easily so that if you don't like a rom you can revert back to a previous rom and retain all your settings. Any help on these subjects would really help me out
Guest Zebrahead Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) Check the website in my sig or search the forum for One click backup and restorer. This will allow you to plug your vega in and back everything up to it's exact state ^^. Using this you can restore your vega no matter what happens. Alternatively, if you have clockworkmod installed, use that. (They effectively use the same principal, and so will yield the same results ^^). Zeb Edited May 5, 2011 by Zebrahead

With regard to this, search the forums for installing clockworkmod, this in turn, will install ROM manager. As for using an ext partition, I would advise you to use a ubuntu live CD if you don't have a linux box. From there you can use gparted. There may be equally efficient ways of doing it on windows, but I'm not aware of them. Zeb
Guest Zebrahead Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 Will I be able to install clockwork rom manager without loosing my current system setup? Yes, in installing CWM, you'll install the ROM manager app and you'll modify the recovery partition (which has no impact on the system or data partitions). Zeb
Guest warriorscot Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 CWM is the most convenient way as it doesn't require a PC to flash a new rom. There are two useful backup tools. Clockworks nandroid backup basically takes a picture of the system that you can then restore as is which is useful for switching back to a known good setup. And Titanium backup which stores all your apps and settings and restores them (fully or partially you pick) after installation of the rom this is good if you want to get your apps back quickly on a new rom rather than loading a backup of an old one. I use both as together they fit my needs in different situations. If I had to pick one though it would be titanium as its the most versatile overall.
Guest zennit Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) What about adw desktop grid settings and widget layout? Also what are the benefits of the pro clockwork rom manager? I currently run a windows 7 64 bit system, whats the best way to get clockwork working bearing in mind people have a lot of usb driver issues, i've seen a wireless tool somewhere, would that be a good option? Also in the past when updating apps that i have moved to the sd card they fail because they need to be on the system. When I get link2sd working will updates be a problem? Do you guys use link2sd to move all your apps to the sd, and do you have android setup to auto choose where to install the apps then move them with link2sd later? Edited May 5, 2011 by zennit
Guest zennit Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) i've just setup vmware player and ubuntu to create a ext partition. Do you use ext2 3 or 4 ? Also its showing my sd card as unallocated space? how comes when I have data on the sd working with my vega? My plan was to resize the current fat32 partition and add an ext partition but i guess I can't now, should I copy the data to my desktop then copy it back after I have done a full format? Would you recomend on a 4gb sd card using a 1gb ext partition and 3gb fat32? Cheers Edited May 5, 2011 by zennit
Guest zennit Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) turning into a mission. I've tried to create a partition in gparted but keep getting an error, would that be something to do with the fact that i'm having to put the micro sd in an adaptor then into a usb stick? Then when I try to use it in windows it cant, and also cant format it so I have to use the vega to format, then back into windows to format again! Could someone share something that works please. thanks fixed : had to unmount device Edited May 5, 2011 by zennit
