Guest ZTEBlade0 Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 (edited) I ve had difficulties after i installed the CM7 stable(?) rom on my Blade, from the 2.1 stock rom. I had backed and restored my 2.1 apps to CM7 which perhaps was a mistake. Anyway, i ve had the well know charging shut down/autorebooting issue and decided to try 2.2 SSRLS5. I had the unfortunate idea to backup all my apps with Titanium in 2.3 CM7 and restore them through Titanium in SS5. This messed up my whole phone and i had to do a clean install again. The installation was so messed up that nothing would install or uninstall, and i could not reboot in recovery with any way. Rom Manager, Recovery Manager were very outdated so i removed and installed them again, finally managing to install the rom again. After reading the excellent recent 7 April guide in this forum, i installed the 3.0.2.4 Clockworkmod in Recovery Manager. In Rom Manager though, after i chose to update, it says it has the 3.0.2.7 Clockworkmod installed. My questions are: can there be two different versions of clockworkmod installed in the same phone? I can reboot into recovery with four ways now, through rom manager, through recovery manager, through the 'extra settings' in SS5, manually by holding vol- during boot. So which version of clockworkmod is utilised in each of these cases? Will i have any kind of problems? Perhaps it is a stupid questions and i didn't got it in my mind correctly, i am under the impression that clockworkmod is a kind of BIOS in terms of a pc and you can't have two different BIOS versions in a pc. Right? Oh and one other question, is there any difference in creating full backups with Recovery Manager and with Rom Manager? Edited May 6, 2011 by ZTEBlade0
Guest hugobosslives Posted May 5, 2011 Report Posted May 5, 2011 very much doubt you have a dual clockworks installed. when you flash a new one, it flashes over the old one. unless, you are a geek and have played around with installing it on another partition (which i assume your not, as you wouldnt be asking such a question....) then NO. if phone apps are saying different things. just boot into recovery (volume -) and it will say clockworkmod v3.0.x.x. this is the version installed. no difference in backups created. all these apps do, is boot into recovery, and do the same backup that a manual clockwork backup (doing it yourself) would do.
Guest ZTEBlade0 Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 You re right, am not a geek, just a geek wannabe. I see that either way i reboot into recovery, it says my version is 3.0.2.4. So i guess the problem is why in Rom Manager it says under 'Flash Clockworkmod Recovery', 'Current Recovery: ClockworkMod 3.0.2.7'. This must be some kind of error or bug?
Guest Flumpster Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Rom Manager also reported that I had a different version to what I was actually running and kept nagging me to update it even tho I had the newest. If you are Gen2 (or have updated to Gen2 using the TPT method) then let Rom Manager update it and then it will show the correct version. If you are Gen 1 and have not upgraded DO NOT DO THIS.

I am Gen1 and haven't used the TPT method. So what should i do now? I had updated supposedly to 3.0.2.7 through Rom Manager before i install my current ROM. Is it just an error of Rom Manager then? Or will it cause me other problems in the future?
Guest Flumpster Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 The updated clockwork thru Rom manager was meant for Gen2. Your best option would be to use a TPT from Here and follow them instructions and install either Swedish Spring or Cyanogen.

Do i have any special reason to turn my phone from Gen1 to Gen2? I have not reached such a conclusion so far from what i read. As for the TPT method, from what i read it is recommended for experienced users and i am an inexperienced one. I already have Swedish Spring installed and about 180 apps. Why would i want to do that all over again? I ve already done it three times. I just want to relax and enjoy the god damned apps in a stable OS, at last. Do i have any special reason to use Rom Manager? The backing up and rom installing functions of Rom Manager and Recovery Manager are identical, right? So if i want to use another rom i ll just use 'install firmware' from Recovery Manager. If Rom Manager is reporting it has 3.0.2.7 installed when the installed version is 3.0.2.4, then i wonder what other errors or mistakes it can make, so i think i do not trust this application now and will remove it. Right?
Guest hugobosslives Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 if your happy with your current gen2 rom then no. you do not have to (or need to) update to gen2. you should only update if you want to go to gen2 roms or unlock things like HSUPA for increased uploading speeds. tho wbaws tpt method is extremely easy to use. you do not need to be an "experienced" user to for it. as long as you follow the instructions properly. you cannot go wrong. yes you do not need rom manager (or even recovery manager) if you don't want. most 'experienced' users for example don't use either and use clockwork manually. (reboot holding vol - etc) then there's no app to screw it up for you as you directly control clockwork. also if sumthing.does go wrong. and you can't boot (to get to these apps. you will know how to use clockwork manually to save ya phone.

So you are saying that Swedish Spring is primarily designed to be a gen2 rom? I wasn't aware of that.
