File Recovery Software

Hi guys/gals

Can anyone help me with this problem.

I need a file recovery program as I had to restore xp computer using a backup. Once I restored it it was not recognizing my wd external 2tb hard disk, so I did a quick format and assigned it a new drive letter but obviously all the files are gone (about 300gb worth!).

Can anyone recommend a program that actually works, I have tried recuva but alas it doesn't find them :mellow:

OK, so there's a few options, the most important thing right now is to UNPLUG that hard drive and not use it. The longer it is plugged in (and in use) the less likely you are to recover any files as those blocks will be overwritten. Also, when recovering data, remember not to recover back to the same drive (for the same reason). recover the files to a separate drive and copy them back over once you are sure you have got everything.

The easiest (and free) app I find to use is PC Inspector file Recovery. Grab that, have it do a scan of the drive and see if it finds your files. There are other programs available, but I find this the easiest to work with, so it's best to start there!
