Guest haritr Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) Hi, I have bought a new Dell XCD 35 from India, It is the same phone, ie, Zte blade/OSF that Dell rebranded. I got it with eclair (android 2.1) with 512 mb ram. Its a gen 1 device according to "ask mr pig fish". Dell is giving free update to froyo through their service centres. Am not planning to mod it and thereby void the 1 year warranty provided by dell. Maybe after 1 year i will mod it. My question is should i upgrade to froyo by going to dell service center or not. Should i update it using the TPT method posted here and before that can i take the backup of default rom to use it in the time of RMA claim in the case of any hardware/software errors within 1 year? TIA. Edited May 6, 2011 by haritr
Guest ronc2000 Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 I though Dell XCD 35 is already equiped with froyo 2.2! If not, yes you should upgrade through official channel, if available. People her flash a customer 2.2/2.3 rom only because there was no official upgrade available.
Guest wakaru Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 If you upgrade to froyo through DELL it would be very interesting if you could make a ROM backup of the system jusf after it has been upgraded, so there is no personal information in your phone, and make it available in these forums to see if it is a more advanced version of the ones we are using.
Guest haritr Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Yea, i will upload the rom dump here as soon as i do a froyo update.
Guest forthe Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 I updated my xcd35 from 2.1 to official dell 2.2. It was Gen1 on 2.1, that changed to Gen2 now. I have less system memory (total 112MB) to install files but can use app2sd. Wanting to help put the official Dell 2.2 Rom up here. Any instructions how to do it.

Hi, Can you tell me how long did the update take? I got a Dell XCD 35 and it came with 2.1. System Memory Total - 414.81 Gen 1 Device This is what it shows on mine. Can you tell me what it says in yours ? After the update did you memory get reduced? Regards Ninbychoice Edited May 11, 2011 by NinByChoice

Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Hi, Your phone was a Gen1 and then you updated to Gen 2? Yes, his phone was gen1 then he updated to gen2. And really, who wants to use an official ROM!?! because even official Roms have bugs. And Come on, flb, ss and mcr dont really have any! plus. Our Roms provide overclocking, and better theming. And for all you know, they might lock things down (or maybe not) so you will NEVER BE ABLE TO GO BACK. O.o!
