Guest adrenius Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Hi, I have an Orange San Francisco Gen 1 phone which is currently rooted and has Japanese Jellyfish RLS9 on it. I am considering updating it to the latest stable Cyanogen Mod but am a bit confused. The site I was on said that the Gen 2 radio was required, and I have no idea what that means I have to do at all Any help will be much appreciated Thanks
Guest Flumpster Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 Do you use the radio built into the phone? (the one where you have to plug your headphones in for the antenna ?) If you use it then do not upgrade to GEN2 and Cyanogen because the radio part in the kernel is not functioning. If you don't use it then just do the TPT method Here. It's very easy to install and if your not happy you can always go back to GEN1 and your old roms.

Whatever happens will I have to upgrade to Gen2? Thanks

I mean that if at any point in the future I want to update to the Cyanogen rom then will that always require updating the phone to become GEN2 as well? Thanks
Guest Amphoras Posted May 6, 2011 Report Posted May 6, 2011 (edited) I mean that if at any point in the future I want to update to the Cyanogen rom then will that always require updating the phone to become GEN2 as well? Thanks You'll need to update your phone to use Gen 2 yes. I never used the built in radio, but whats the difference between it and apps like Tune In Radio? Edited May 6, 2011 by Amphoras

Guest jimbobvfr400 Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 I never used the built in radio, but whats the difference between it and apps like Tune In Radio? Tune In radio is Internet radio and requires a data connection. The built in radio is an FM radio and doesn't require data.
Guest Amphoras Posted May 7, 2011 Report Posted May 7, 2011 Tune In radio is Internet radio and requires a data connection. The built in radio is an FM radio and doesn't require data. Ah that makes sense thanks. Only time I've used it was at home with wifi on.
Guest drobson67 Posted May 16, 2011 Report Posted May 16, 2011 You'll need to update your phone to use Gen 2 yes. I never used the built in radio, but whats the difference between it and apps like Tune In Radio? Tunin radio uses the internet to recieve radio channels and uses a data connection where as the fm radio receives channels or to be correct frequencies through the earphones plugged in to act as an antenna, with internet radio you have more choice and are not limited by distance or band where as with an fm radio, transmissions tends to be limited to line of sight, Im not sure which method would drain the battery more but both have pros and cons, if you dont have much of a data allowance then you might want to consider the fm radio.
