Is it possible to share your mobile phones internet connection to your Vega via bluetooth. I remember this was possible with older pdas but i get the feeling that because the vega uses an os from a phone it wont work.

Yes. I used my HTC Desire's Wi-Fi Hotspot app to share its internet connection via bluetooth with my Vega so that I could navigate via Google Maps & GPS (an external GPS unit, not the Desire's).

WiFi hotspot doesn't share by bluetooth? Does it?

You have the tethering which is via usb, and I was under the impression hotspot just emitted wifi in a router-esque manner?

thanks for the quick reply. Unfortunatly i dont think my phone is capable of haveing an app like that (Samsung SGH-F480). It is capable of shating a connection with a bluetooth enabled laptop. But i just havnt seen any apps or settings on the vega. I am currently using a slightly modded versioj of Modacco R8

You're quite right. To quote the opening page of the app "Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot can share this phone's 3G Internet connection with your PC via Wi-Fi. After the Portable Wi-Fi Hotspot is started on this phone, your PC can connect to it and then start using the Internet.". So I was able to access the Internet from my Vega via wi-fi and my Desire.

WRT OP and sharing via bluetooth,

I don't think anyone has configured bluetooth drivers to handle that, the same applies to tethering via usb.

The best you'll probably be able to do is a portable wifi hotspot.

I have a Samsung Galaxy Spica i5700 rooted and running Android 2.1. The rom included a specific version of Wireless Tether for the phone that allows me to run the phone as a Wi-Fi Hotspot onto which I can connect from any Wi-Fi enabled device like the Advent Vega to gain internet access

Regards

Jerry

This thread:

http://android.modaco.com/content-page/330...-vega/page/100/

has a lot of information and I think very useful, could be a solution in it.

Hope this helps - maybe add to that thread to keep the GPS info together, although the focus of the thread is on the "Wayfinder" GPS. (about £6 on ebay).

I had thought about a USB GPS mounted internally with a USB hub after removing the case from the hub and GPS. There were a lot of mods like this to the eee PC 701 by I think JKK Mobile and others. Big job to try - time is the problem.

Plan to try the Wildfire again and the Wayfinder

Best

I have just aquired a cheap san fransico / blade.... andriod phone , I have the "ZTE_BLADE" jelly rom installed, and it has a setting in the wirless and network settings to tethering and portable hotspot with two options usb or portable wi-fi hotspot, works a treat with the vega or anything else that use wi-fi come to that, its just seach for wi-fi, select the san fransico, and your cookin on gass.

so you can use your vega anywhere

cheers
