Vega microphone not working

Hi guys sorry I haven't been around lately lol I've been busy

Anyway due to the work I'm doing it requires the use of the Microphone on the Vega. So I originally had Corvus's rom on it, I tried the microphone, didn't work. I thought must not be compatible with Corvus5 so I reflashed to Stock. Still doesn't work lol.

It's strange it sounds like static from a TV whenever I play whatever I've recorded back ...

Anyone else had this issue I'm desperate to get it sorted lol :o

Cheers :D

Hi ... think you need to clarify what you mean by 'mic not working' as first you say it isn't working then you say it is recording stuff but badly? If you are getting interference have you tried turning off wireless comms and trying again? i.e. Bluetooth is notorious for causing interference and so can wi-fi.

Hi Trevor,

I never said the Vega was recording badly, I said the Vega was recording static. In other words it isn't recording anything that I can playback and listen to, other then static. Thats what I meant by not working... I tried disabling all means of wireless communication, however the mic is still recording nothing but static.

I've tried Pauls rom, Corvus and Stock and still the problem exists. God forbid it's a technical problem with the device. Thanks for your respons trev.

OK what app are you using? I just tried Sound Recorder and mine works alright though not high quality and I can't see any settings which could affect recording volume levels. It would be nice if there was an Android system health checking app so will investigate further.

Ye it would be handy wouldn't it. I've used two audio recording programs. One was the default that came installed with the Vega. The other was a free one I downloaded from the market however i cant remember the name. Both the programs anyway only recorded static.

Thanks for your help.

Well I've had a good rummage around but I can't find a mic specific test app. When you used the basic Sound Recorder app did the needle move when you spoke into the mic at all. If not I guess in all probability the mic is dead and you will need to get it replaced by returning to store. I did try and find an app which you could use a bluetooth headset for mic input but none would work for me. Sorry about that

I can confirm that using google voice search I'm not getting any accurate results. I'm on corvus5 but I think this is down to bad hardware.

Hi,

I've noticed the 'static' noise too on playback when using the sound recorder program on the stock 1.9 ROM. The level meter fluctuates alot while recording. The Mic is working as far as I can tell.

I've also noticed this problem with the R8 ROM.

Voice search is pretty accurate, though one thing I've noticed is that when using voice search whilst the Vega is being charged, there is hardly anything being picked up by the mic. When not charging, signal levels being picked up are higher. This is going by the microphone VU meter in voice search.

I'm now not too sure if this is a hardware fault. I was hoping that there was a setting foraltering record levels.

I'm now using Corvus' ROM and still have the issue with voice search whilst charging. I've not tried sound recorder, as I've not installed it, but expect the noise to be present.

Cheers,

Phill

Interesting feedback. Seems like the microphone might have been a last minute addition without enough attention being taken to it's functionality but there again same could be said for the camera. It would be interesting to know if using an external USB webcam whether the Vega also accepts sound through the webcam as well?

Cheers guys atleast I know I'm not the only one with this issue

I'm currently trying to figure out why it isn't working, if I find anything I'll post it up here. I would be most grateful if you were to do the same if any advances were made.

A quick thought - have you tried with and without the power adaptor connected? I know there were issues with some power adaptors causing some interference and I have one that kills an FM radio nearby.
