An annoying one this.

I've had my blade for six months and not had any issues at all. Initially flashed with Paul's ROM, then JJ9.

Anyway, whilst travelling to the airport I had my Google navigation on and the blade being charged with the car charger.

When I arrived the blade was stupidly hot and to add insult to injury at Heathrow airport I was randomly spot checked and the phone checked for "anomolies" within about half an hour it switched itself off and whenever I tried to switch it on it just kept vibrating - very similar indeed to :

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-san-francisco/

Got up one morning after having on charge overnight and the green android man was on the screen, thought thats funny and popped in pocket and went to work. when going to use it the green man started shaking and disappeared then phone wouldnt turn on at all. later was getting the vibrate every second when holding power button so thought battery was completely flat.

I was able to charge the phone up using the normal charger whilst on holiday but kept getting issues with restarts and the green man appearing and not doing much else.

When back off hols I reflashed it with Swedish Spring 5 and everything seems ok again EXCEPT :

battery life is screwed - it lasts probably four hours on standby before running out of life - I've tried everything I can think of to rectify it through the forums etc.. but ultimately trying to work out if :

1) Battery is knackered

2) Phone is knackered

3) 1&2

Any thoughts?

I have a new battery on its way so the main reason for posting was to see if others had experienced similar and/or stop others trashing their phones with car chargers!

My guess is the car charger has overheated the phone and battery.

I also have the wifi issue so as an aside does anyone know how to delete :

/etc/wifi/wpa_supplicant.conf

I get read only error messages.

Many thanks in advance for any help/suggestions.

If you have followed the battery recalibration guide through to the letter then either your phone or battery is screwed

http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...bration-protip/

Well, more likely your battery than your phone. Although it does sound strange.. If I were you I would just double check that the phone is sleeping (Only the power button should be able to wake it after about 1min of it being idle) and make sure no apps are sucking the life out of the battery

It is strange that a battery can work perfectly for 6months then just die. It could be your car charger (Check the output voltage (5v) and the current (500ma-1A))

Hope something here helps

Thanks for your post.

I've followed the battery recalibration - no joy.

Just checked - phone definitely sleeping and all process activity is as you'd expect. Have removed all widgets etc. Must be phone/battery broken. Very much hoping the latter.

The other key thing I forgot to mention was the temperature - it's running around 38-40 C on charge and only drops to around 35-36 C when not being charged which is well above ambient.

Look at Advanced Wi Fi settings, I have just updated 2 San Frans to Swedish 2.2 and it keeps Wi Fi running even when asleep.... Set to switch off when asleep and see how battery goes. Running Bluetooth and wifi I get @ 12 hours, but if I switch off BT & WiFi off when not needed, I get @ 16 hours, just........

No issue with wifi as I can't currently connect to wifi.

A couple more useful bits.

When in sleep mode battery usage is split 50/50 between cell standby and phone idle - is this reasonable?

When charging via USB it powers the phone just enough to keep it at the same battery level!

;-(

Looking forward to receiving the new battery to see if it's a simple as an overcooked battery.

Ok, further test, fully charged at 11pm last night. Phone turned off and on turn on this morning battery level at 35% - encouraged this is the battery now - any thoughts?

Battery is split between phone / dialer?

Sounds like an old issue that was kicking around a long Time ago :)

Do a nandroid backup and flash Cyanogen mod. If you want to stay on GEN1 I would go for 7.0.0 stable. This will ruleout Rom issues

Hope this helps

You are right with USB charging, will only charge to @ 800ma-h, where as battery is rated at 1250ma-h and mains charger is the only way.

I tested mine yesterday while driving using Goggle maps with GPS on Sat Nav for @ 4 hours using a Cig Lighter USB adaptor, and the battery actually dropped 5% over the 4 hours, poss due to using GPS and G3 etc, I also had the screen rather bright to see with the sun shining.

Wi Fi will poss use more power if on, but not connected as its searching all the time. I would switch Wi Fi. Bluetooth etc off if not needed.

Yes 50/50.

Also, further testing with new battery (no difference to old battery so far)

Phone was at 90% last night. I switched it off with the battery still in and turn on this morning - 25% charge!!

Looks like a partial wake lock issue per :

http://androidforums.com/motorola-droid/16...turned-off.html

Everything being removed tonight and reflash - hopefully this is will solve it.

You won't see max capacity from a new battery for a week or so and during this time you should keep it on charge as much as possible (the same afterwards actualy).

This will "regulate" the power monitors. Of course if you flash you should do so with max charge as the whole process starts again.

Can you link to the old threads on this?

I must get to the bottom of this - it's starting to wind me up.

And, if your phone is sleeping - what should battery usage look like?

Switching to 2G appears to have made a quite dramatic effect in terms of battery loss if this adds anything useful to anyone.

hmm but not that dramatically after running for a while

I ran the phone on airplane mode over night and woke up this morning to see battery life still at 85%. However, as soon as I went to go into something it turned off and on recharge - battery life was zero!

So I've pretty well tried everything excepting putting the orange stock rom back on - might just give that a shot before I send it back.
