With this modded Google Maps version you can use navigation in countries which are not officially supported by Google yet!

I tried it, works great!

Here is a mirror download link for Google Maps 5.4.0 ownhere

These Installation instructions worked for me, they are for earlier version of Google Maps ownhere but worked as well for 5.4.0 version:

1. Wipe cache and Uninstall Maps and StreetView using Titanium Backup.

2. Using Root Explorer, copy maps5.2.1-ownhere.apk to /system/app.

3. Hold maps5.2.1-ownhere.apk for further options and choose Permissions.

4. Uncheck the entire Execute Column, and uncheck the second option in Write column.

Example:

Read-------Write-------Execute

-x-----------x------------o-

-x-----------o------------o-

-x-----------o------------o-

5. Reboot the phone.

5. Done.. Now you should have Maps in the App Drawer.

op thanks for this... i for one did not know about this.

works here in Thailand.

also instead of using 'root explorer' you can get access using 'es file explorer' just go into menu and use the root function. No need for the permissions part.

Yes. Because we're dealing with Titanium Backup and more importantly the /system/ folder which would otherwise be protected.

Hi,

My phone is rooted and I have both Titanium and Root Exp installed. However I cant complete step 2. it says i cant paste the file to that directory as it is read-only. I can fix the permissions in the file with no problem. SO whats the other problem? btw im running CM7 N8X
