Has anyone installed CM7 and tried removing the phone bits and pieces?

I booted into recovery and tried applying the vega-phone-removal.zip file but it didn't seem to change anything after reboot.

Am I doing something wrong?

EDIT: Just a way to hide the damn signal strength icon would be enough, it's bugging the hell out of me.

You've probably removed the phone bits if you ran the phonezip but annoyingly the bars remain. Not sure how to hide it but in Wifi settings you can select airplane mode and then unselect it and you seem to get left a plane icon which is slightly better

if memory serves (you can see for yourself by examining the zip), it just removes the phone apk and the telephony apk, thus disabling the phone actions of the device.

The bars remain as they are needed for the contacts list, they could be removed if this component was dropped but I doubt that is going to happen, really its a minor issue for me not worth bothering about.

Aha, well. I think once the honeycomb builds stabilise with wifi etc I'll probably switch to that anyway.

As a side note, any of you guys notice a sort of static effect on the screen when it's updating? (most noticeable with video, I've only really noticed it on CM7 since I flashed the vega to CM7 as fast as I could without really using the other roms)

It's like essentially a single pixel in height and about five or ten pixels across and appears randomly on the screen when scrolling or when video is playing. It isn't very noticeable when scrolling or updating the screen using say Opera. But is noticeable when playing video through say flash for example. (like bbc news or through the iplayer app)

What you are seeing is caused by the Flash player. It seems to be worse with the version from the Market which is not optimised for Tegra. There are some links to some Tegra specific versions in the post listing all the "How To's"

That kind of artificing has been happening with all the roms unfortunately.

I agree most of us will probably move to any 3.0 release but until then CM7 is definitely one of the better choices.
