Unexpectedly Removed SD Card Bug - Any ideas?

I've recently started encountering a bug with writing to my sd card. During downloads where something is being written to the sd card, or after taking pictures, my micro sd card will promptly dismount, causing me to lose the picture or download. However market downloads seem alight - presumably because they download straight to the phone.

I currently run cm7 stable 7.02 (gen 2) but I have found the bug is also present in Swedish spring RLS5 so I concluded that it was my hardware. I then installed the stock rom and so that I could return my phone to orange. However, my sd card doesn't dismount on this rom. Does anyone have any idea's why this might be happening to my phone and how I can fix the problem?
