Stevenharperuk's instruction for custom rom not working

Hi there everyone, i am a new member and have recently bought a zte blade orange san francisco. I have been reading modaco and have been impressed by the website.

So then i decided to try out a custom rom, i found stevenharperuk's instructions and decided to try and install one.

But after following the clear instructions it doesnt work. I have a GEN1 2.1 osf.

So where am i going wrong? hope someone can help

Just to recap i did the following things as advised

1) downloaded and installed on microsd card UniversalAndroot v1.6.1

2) downloaded and installed on microsd card ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager 0.34b (actually installed ZTE-Blade Recovery Manager 0.36b as i could not find 34b for some reason )

3) downloaded and installed on microsd card Clockwork 3.0.2.4 (recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-blade-g1.img) (actually installed recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.8-v9-gen1-update_signed as i could not find recovery-clockwork-3.0.2.4-blade-g1.img for some reason)

4) downloaded and installed from the market astro file manager

So lastly i root the phone, install recovery then install firmware on the menu as advised, an error says

you need to install a custom recovery before you can install a new firmware!

So what is this error for?? when i have already installed the recovery and picked the .img file 3.0.2.8-v9-gen1-update_signed?

Also after doing these steps i power on the phone the green android icon loads and stays on the screen as well as the back button glows red. This stays like this for a long time maybe 10 mins. I have to take out the battery several times for the phone to load normally

Once i have done this it loads as normal with the orange uk logo and my phone works.

So please tell me more about anything wrong that i am doing and about the error message as well as the screen freezing problem that i now have

the clockwork you have downloaded is not for the blade. its for the v9 phone. download the correct clcokwork (for the blade) from Stevens post. then it will see you have installed clockwork

and again you must download the recovery.img .it must be the recovery.IMG AND U DONT INSTALL NEW FIRMWARE BUT INSTALL RECOVERY.after install maybe it tells u unrecognized recovery installed but thats ok dont worry.then when u install recovery boot ur phone into clockworkmod recovery and install any rom u wish but it must be GEN1

Hi, i will redownload the blade clockwork file.

Also can you tell me if i mess up my phone if i could go back to the orange rom that cam with the phone? How would i do this and where can i find the original rom?

the stock roms are in a thread. if you didn't backup before you installed your new rom. just search the forum for: blade stock rom. or similar.
