Guest rockmonkey Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Hi all. Ok i have been a silent member for a whle now without ever posting. Bottom line is i have never needed to as the guides have always been spot on easy to follow and generally work. Even when i have a few problems a quick search or google has generally led me to the answer. Bit of billy background been using android phones for quite a while now hero was the first had to flash it by using a goldcard... how much simpler things have become. Anyway long story short. Bought a third party battery off ebay and when i tried to charge it and turn it on it sent my phone into an endless reboot of the green droid and the android boot animation. took it out and tried to use my original... which was nearly drained after a days use. Now when i try to charge my original battery i have the icon in the notification area flashing as charged 100 and then i get a red circle with a triangle in it that flashes up every five seconds or so. When i look at the battery stats in spare parts it actually says battery status charging and then unknown and battery health good and then dead again ever 5 seconds or so. I am running swedish spring 4b and my phone is a first gen oled that i bought almost a month after orange started selling them. I have tried wiping the battery stats and dalvik cache in recovery but nothing has altered the problem and it seems the battery is actually drained as i cant turn the phone on without it being plugged in. If i remove the usb charging cable it turns off straight away. As it stands my phone is unusable away from the mains which makes a mockery of the term mobile phone. Can anyone think of anything else i could (i will do a full wipe and resore in an hour or so but am hesitant as it is set up pretty perfect) or ever come across this problem? I will happily post a link to the dodgy battery should anyone else wish to avoid buying one
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Seems like you have tried everything - there is not much left to do... Except - my old friend - the tpt  Apply a tpt ( I am sure you are capable of reading the guides, hence of what you said aboce :) ) They seem to fix everything, flush out all the old files and replace them with a fresh new set. You will loose data, of course. I would recommend the gen1 to gen2 tpt but its all down to preference. Simply because I am assuming it would push more new files.
Guest rockmonkey Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Ok Thanks for helping out. Just to clarify you are suggesting i move from gen 1 to gen 2 using wbaw's guide? if i do this will i need to upgrade my recovery firmware which is currently on 2.5.1.8 or can i leave it alone?
Guest handful Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Have you tried a different charger? Does it charge via USB? Worth trying both of those things, I have 4 in the family and not all chargers work with all phones. Very strange problem.
Guest rockmonkey Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Hi. Yes i have tried all sorts of chargers and cables. The dodgy battery doesnt boot the phone at all and sends it into a loop and the original wont charge but at least the phone will power on. So it works connected to the mains. I have flashed a the upgrade to s/s and that hasnt worked so will try the tpt method of changing the gen from 1 to 2 and see if that helps. I also have a new battery on its way from a different seller on ebay. If none of that works then i will have to either buy another phone or look into getting it repaired under warranty although i may encounter some problems as i dont have the original sim card and the guy in the orange store informed me that the unlocking of the phone voids the warranty! I aint sure how true that is and i may be able to get away with the unlocking of the phone if i can source an orange payg sim to stick in there for when i send it off but before it goes I will have to go through the hassle of changing it all back to stock. I cant even be 100% certain that the dodgy battery caused this but all i know is that the original was charging and working fine until i stuck the new one in there. Will update the thread when i have tried the tpt. In the meantime if anyone else could suggest anything i am missing then that would be great.
Guest rockmonkey Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 The phone is now officially buggered. It has become a budget brick. Problems i had were i couldnt verify the image file (so aint sure it was spot on) and i couldnt in the end get the phone to start unless it was connected to the pc so when i tried to install the gen 2 update it looked like it wasnt working and so i pulled the battery. Now it wont start at all and although i can get to the recovery image when it is connected to my laptop and i can flash roms it wont start instead it is caught in an endless loop. It wont even turn on when only connected to the mains. Ah well i guess i will ebay it as spares. Thanks anyways for all your help. It was it would seem on its way out and i have just pushed it over the edge.
Guest rockmonkey Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 No scrub that. I spoke to soon. Just as i was about to give up i connected once more to my veho external battery with the original battery in. Booted it into recovery and the phone is now gen 2 running swedish spring 5 and the battery is showing 100 per cent with no hint of the battery error. I havent yet taken the cable out and tried running it on battery power alone without the eternal pack attached as i am just relieved it is running and so will leave it alone for now. If this has sorted it then old tpt certainly is the dogs dangleys. Top stuff. It is good to have old girl working working working after all you just cant get a phone this good with such a great modding scene for under a hundred quid anywhere else in the universe. Thanks again for the suggestion and a big thanks for the guys who create these mods and roms i for one am mucho grateful.
Guest rockmonkey Posted May 14, 2011 Report Posted May 14, 2011 ah doing me nut in. Ah well battery error retruns with a vengance. Not sure if it is an app or what but google was downloading my back up apps and it returns. Once again back to the beginning but the phone is gen 2 at least
