Guest Bilalp23 Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 Hi all  I recently dropped my blade and the screen broke. it was quite emotional aswell because it was still usable at first but only had a thick white line going down the right hand side of the screen and a little bit of purple on the left. I noticed after a few hours that the screen was bleeding and the whole screen had a purple tinge. Woke up the next morning and BAM, the whole screen was completely black ;). As there are no replacement screens available (it isnt the digitizer) i obviously have to buy another phone and am looking at the 200 pound mark. I have decided between either the galaxy S or the HD2 (which ill obviously run android on). I dont know why but im kinda gearing towards the Samsung as it seems more high end (Super AMOLED, capacative buttons, better processer etc) but i my bro has a HD2 on android so i know all about the amazing amount of ROMS (MIUI, Sense roms, Cya even WP7!!) and the bigger screen size. What do you guys think, which is better? Ive also got the Dell Streak in mind? But not too sure about that one. THOUGHTS PLEASE!!! :) MANY THANKS IN ADVANCE! :P
Guest ZTE_Blade Posted May 11, 2011 Report Posted May 11, 2011 I'd say SGS. I've owned an HD2, and I've only ever used android on it... but one day it fell(not the first time), and was more or less useless afterwards. I've used an SGS before, and I like the screen a lot, and it's quite zippy too.
Guest Frankish Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 I'll throw the Motorola Defy in the mix. We have a really stable (more than the blade!) CM7 port on it. There is a HTC Sense rom port however it is a bit dated now. Overclockable to 1.3ghz, tough, full flash support. Same size screen as the Desire yet smaller phone  I don't like Samsung...although that SGS2....wow.
Guest What_The_Fox_Hat Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 How about a different direction altogether - SE Xperia X10? The bootloader, although not cracked, has been bypassed and there are a number of ROMs available on XDA and guides to remove the bloatware, but more importantly there will be an official 2.3.3 update end Q2 beginning Q3. It has a 1ghz processor, 1 gig of internal storage and a great camera but no FM radio i'm very happy with mine

They are plagued with a motherboard problem that can start at any time which means the phone will start to reboot once it gets warm (this can be anywhere from 20 degrees plus). I was lucky that I managed to get back what I paid from it via an online phone recycle site but I would strongly advise getting a X10 second hand out of warranty. It is a pity because with a custom ROM it ran OK but the stock SE 2.1 was crap and SE should be ashamed of this phones build quality and lagging firmware.
Guest Fou-lu Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Samsung Galaxy S, some people hate on that phone cause of the 2.1 that came with it, and "iphone look" but flash a 2.3 rom on it and it's one of the best single core phones ever. HD2 is nice for changing roms and experimenting around, but that big screen sucks the battery probaly can get both for £190-220 on auctions, if your lucky..
Guest Jeroen06 Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 Definitely the Galaxy S, I had both the HD2 and Galaxy S. The screen is mucher better on the Galaxy S, the HD2 has the 65k color screen (galaxy s has 16 million colors) so you will see some color banding (not very nice looking) The touchscreen itself does respond much better and can track up to 5 multitouch points, the HD2 has the same problem has the blade and sometimes inverts the axis when they cross ( ) Speaker on the Galaxy S is also better.
Guest veehexx Posted May 12, 2011 Report Posted May 12, 2011 dell streak is more like a small tablet rather than phone. while it'll fit into any normal sized jeans pocket, it's just a tad too big for a phone. theres also the nexus one and evo if you havent thought about them.

Same size screen as the Desire yet smaller phone  Apologies for crashing this thread but I am interested in the comparisons between the Defy and the Blade - Frankish ? Anyone ??. Looks like I'll be giving my Blade to my youngest daughter as a reward for good behaviour (don't ask :) ) - so I was thinking I could buy myself a replacement of something slightly better and I see that I can get a secondhand Defy for about £165 (€190) or a Galaxy S for slightly more, again secondhand of course. I'm wondering what, if anything, I'd miss about the Blade - I don't want to get stuck with a phone that I'd hate as I won't be changing for a while after that (would be saving for a decent tablet for the end of the year instead). Main reason for wanting a Defy or similar is for: * better camera/video recording so I don't have to carry a camera about, with a camera flash, * better build quality and a bit more rugged phone - Defy appeals because of this * slightly bigger and better screen would be nice * TV-out * also to have Flash on the system too so I can play Cordy and Stupid Zombies Concerns I have are: * I'm a bit worried about the stupid MotoBlur thing - I'm OK with mucking around with the phone (got upgraded to Gen2, changed partition, got CM7 on Blade) so can I assume the MotoBlur crap can be got rid of easily enough ?? * Can any Defy be unlocked easily - I'll be buying one in France secondhand and I was wondering if I can get them to work with any sim, even a UK one (I'm British). * what should I look for when buying a Defy secondhand - there is one for sale on ebay UK for £125 buy it now - guy says it has problems logging in to MotoBlur - but does that even matter if you can root it and get CM7 on there ?? Sorry for the long post and lots of questions. Appreciate any comments on the above, or any alternatives (preferably with reasons for suggestions). Edited May 13, 2011 by frenchdroid

I haven't looked back since going the Defy route i even like it better than my old Desire. Things you may miss about the Blade? If you have an OLED then maybe the screen colour and the Blade is slightly less complicated to flash a custom rom. After first time on Defy it gets easier. Defy good points over the Blade? 800mhz processor but i overclock my Defy to 1.2ghz :P Bigger screen is great. Capacitive buttons are actually nice plus an extra button...search key! Which can be used to launch custom apps. Much better CM7 port although unofficial it is miles more functional than on the Blade. Flash 10.3! You don't realise how much you miss it until you actually have it again. (Desire had flash, Blade didn't but Defy does again!) There are plenty of 2.2 Froyo roms for the Defy and there are even official "Deblur" ones like the Nordic release which has practically no Blur crap. Defy is easily unlocked although no free solution. About buying second hand...make sure there is an option to return as some had issues with earpiece failing it's fixed in newer ones. Anything i missed or other questions just ask :) Maybe in PM.
Guest veehexx Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 i've just bought a nexus one from the 'bay. came with a few accessories and some very minor scratches for £185 delivered. i came to the point where the SF just wasnt satisfying my requirements; for a budget phone I had high expectations which it couldn't live upto. shame, my requirements are a bit different than alot of people here so i've decided to sell and go with a far more business orientated device.
