Guest rferrett Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 I noticed this story on BBC t'interwebs t'other day:- http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-13284156 Really isn't this a little bit of a false dichotomy (at least in relation to the Market). I think google is losing a march on Apple et al. You see here is the thing. I think Google can have its cake and eat it and my suggestion is as follows. Leave Market pretty much as it is in terms of anyone and everbody being able to submit motions. But introduce a new category of Apps called "Google Approved" which have to go through a similar approval process to Apple. Nothing that states companies have to do this but all the best App creaters would want the "Google Approved" logo, and I'd imagine most would end up this. But you would still have the wild west frontier for the likes of us providing an entry point for new devs. Google really could have the best of both worlds and I am amazed they are not doing something like.
Guest simonta Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 You wiley old ferret. That sounds like a corking idea to me. Dude, easy to assume that people whose job it is is to define the market have thought of this but seriously, I'd mail that off to Eric Schmidt and anyone else you can think of. Drop a couple of pointers to Android Central, Android Guys etc. If you could also get them to do some proper copy protection, that would be appreciated . I've given up targetting Android. Devving iOS and Winphone 7 now - no money to be had in Android...
Guest trevor432990 Posted May 13, 2011 Report Posted May 13, 2011 I'm sure the Android Market would be much more viable and profitable to all concerned if they just sorted the search facility out. Every time I use it I wince when I see the results with pages of rubbish which don't even include one of the words I've put into the search string. What were Google thinking about when they put that 'key function' in place and if they don't resolve the matter soon they will lose out big time to these other market newcomers. The idea of badging apps is effectively what Amazon are doing and might help ease things for Google if they introduced it but at the heart of the matter is what is their target hardware market is it Phones, Tablets, Internet TV, Consoles, PCs. Right now they seem to spreading themselves into every corner which means they are fast becoming a Jack of all trades and master of none (as the old saying goes) and their crown is certainly slipping with what made them a household name in the first place the search engine.

Id say google has read your mind my man, that or youve watched the google i/o this week lol The android market (the web store so far, but coming soon to the phone market) has introduced editors choice apps. which is kind of the same thing isn't it? If its got googles editors choice sticker on, then its "google approved" Back to the article, the whole thing is stupid, its a stupid article, look at this quote ""Even if Amazon gets huge, and everyone is using it, if Google sorts out their store... what's the point of using Amazon? basically saying whats the point of having numberous app stores, we should all have one definite place to get apps! its like soooo does your misses just have the one shop where she buys all her shoes, makeup, and clothes? kos i know mine doesnt?? i know us brits havnt got the amazon store yet, but i for one cant wait, i cant wait for the competition, they do "app of the day" where they give a paid app away free every single day. How amazing is that!! imagine how many Paid apps you could have by the end of your 2 year phone contract? and they all stick to your account... so when you get the next android phone, you would still have all of those apps. Now am not saying you would need or want every single app but there selection so far as been amazing and am already very jealous!! But then again what else can we expect from the bbc? a company that has no competition as it doesnt matter about viewings for them, they still collect our tv licenses whether we like it or not, they never have to worry about ratings or viewership, their income is guarnteed. So what do they know about giving people choice?
