Apk Modifying (images)

I am intending to modify theme manager themes (Cm7/t-mobile theme system), and change the images within them to create my own 'theme'.

I am able to extract apk's with 7zip and do necessary modifying.

However, when I create the "theme.apk" archive with 7zip, and try to install, I get a parsing error.

In short: what tool do i need to modify apk's easily, and preferably a less dated method :unsure:

But throw whatever you know at me (:
