3G cuts off after 1 minute - No problems with 2G - Giffgaff

Hi,

I bought myself a Sanfran and installed the Swedish Spring ROM.

Everything seemed to be perfect until I tried to used 3G. WIFI works perfectly as does GPRS/EDGE.

When I am on 3G, it starts working fine after boot-up, and then the connection dies after a few minutes each time (regardless of where I am located). If i reboot, the 3G comes back for a few minutes and then dies again. Its worth noting that I see the H icon and a full signal and the up/down arrows, so I don't think its an APN setting problem.

I'm beginning to think that I have a faulty phone.

Has anyone else encountered this phenomenon?

Thanks....

I don't think your phone is faulty. I had a similar problem a few days ago, I fiddled with Mobile Network settings then it came back unfortunately I don't remember the exact steps I did to solve it.

If I remember I'll let you know.

Giffgaff have been having various 3G / Data issues lately, so much so that us giffgaffers actually all have free mobile data throughout May, if you didn't know.

I get consistent 3G signal / performance, though I'm not out in the middle of nowhere so that might have something to do with it. I'd suggest waiting a while until GiffGaff confirm that they've gotten everything cleared up.

Thanks for the replies.

I never manage to maintain the 3G connection for more than 5 minutes and then I need to reboot to get it back. This has been the case all over London. The oddity is that 2G works absolutely fine.

Hmm, I'm with T-Mobile and I couldn't get any mobile connection at all a few days ago so I think my problem was different.

Have you tried a different ROM and see if it made a difference?

Try change: Settings > Mobile Network settings > Network Mode > GSM/WCDMA Auto.

I have tried some interesting things today, including upgrading to Gen2 and installing CyanogenMod.

Basically, if I disable GPS, everything works perfectly, and running Speedtest, I get a download speed of 3 Meg, which is great for a mobile.

So, I have narrowed down my issue to GPS and 3G not being able to live together.

This leads me to believe that I have faulty hardware.

Thoughts?
