when i turn it on, the backlight lights up, and then.... nothing. its just stays like that.

have to long hold power button to turn it off.

cant even get into the built Recovery thing. argh!

(and i've been trying out different roms this week, including vegacomb, so i've got the hang of the button presses to get into recovery, so i dont think its just me mis-timing it or something)

saw that there is a 'black screen of death' fix as part of the Vega Tools, but this requires it to be in recovery... grrrr

anyone got any ideas? or should i just take it back to pc world tomorrow?

You can always get it into APX mode (back 2s, power 2s....)

Try to flash stock - it will work. Once stock is back, restore your data from there.

EDIT : What ROM were you using before you got the Black screen, it may be possible to fix without losing your data.

had been trying vegacomb alpha4 - but it kept freezing - like every couple of minutes and i would have to long hold power to turn it off, and no-one else had reported this issue with honeycomb, so i put it back to stock 1.09 and had tried that ok for over half an hour without it locking up, so thought 'phew, looks like its not a hardware issue' and turned it off, ready to go into Recovery and nvflash alpha4 again, and when i tried to get into Recovery it wouldnt work, and then i tried to boot normally (i.e. back into sttock 1.09), it just sits there with the backlight lit, and gets no further.

combined with the reqular lockups i was getting before, i think its faulty hardware... unless you can think of anything else to try?

EDIT: if no-one else can suggest anything, i'm gonna try leaving it on (i.e. just the backlight lit) until the battery runs out completely, and see if that clears things - cant think of owt else to try myself...

Please don't take this as an insult being fairly basic part of the procedure that you have done quite a few times by the sound of it but have you got it plugged into the mains? I had forgot to turn the charger on at the wall the other day and got in a right panic that nvflash just wouldn't come up and once you panic simple steps go out the window.

As you say apart from that the locks up sound like your Vega doesn't/didn't like 1.5GHz CPU.

yeah, i've tried every combination of cable in/out you cant think of - thanks for the reply tho mate

thankfully, i've think i've got to the bottom of it - dodgy usb port on the front of my pc!!!

- plugged my microUSB adapter in to copy off my SD data just in case, and it wouldnt show up - plugged it in round the back and it worked ok, so i tried plugging the vega in there, and hey presto, i can get into Recovery! woohoo! re-flashing stock 1.09 now!

sorry i ever doubted you, my beloved vega!

thanks for the help though guys - i love this place! ;o)

EDIT: still doesnt explain the frequent lock ups when try honeycomb, but i see that beta1 is out now, so i'll prob try that in a minute and see if everything is ok now

If you keep getting lockups I would install setcpu and run at lower frequency . TBH Im supprised we dont see more hard locks up when overclocking by 50% have you run for extended periods at 1.5GHz on Corvus5 or similar?

+1 for that. Personally, I wouldn't advise anyone to run an embedded CPU at 50% over. Asking for trouble. 10/20% maybe, but 50%. Playing with fire - which theoretically it might do!

Yeah, had been running corvus5 for the last fortnight or so, and tried vegacomb the last few days - didnt realise they were both overclocked tbh.

Have just installed vegacomb beta1 and it locked up once on me, so have set it back to 1ghz via setcpu, and so far it seems ok... will post back if it still locks up

Cherrs for the advice guys btw

Please, how many times do people on this forum have to write "you can always get into recovery"? Just keep trying. Vary the timing.

With respect, if this is your first day and you don't know what to do next, then forget VegaComb. It's not for you yet.

Download Corvus ROM (or some other custom ROM that grabs your fancy) then search for YAUDIG and follow the guide to get the ADB drivers installed. Get some experience and be comfortable with installing ROMs before trying VegaComb. Trust me, you will save yourself a lot of pain.

I am having similar problems to the OP in that I have flashed my 2-3 day old Vega with the R8 rom - tried switching the USB from slave to host and its now stuck on the BSOD Fastboot download protocol screen - PC is seeing the tablet (I can see it in dev manager under ADB interface), but cannot get the tablet into recovery mode despite my many attempts (have been trying for the past hour continuously.) As soon as I hit the power button in the recovery button cycle, it switches on and I get the same screen again.

Power plugged into the tablet? My Viewpad doesn't go into NVidia Flash recovery without power plugged in.

Hold bk button 2 secs and then hold power button 6 seconds then relase power button and hold back button a further 2 seconds. If u have recovery image and driver on ur pc then click on this as the vega wil be in recovery mode. takes a few mins to put back then run screen calibration test without mains connected. And hopefully that should work.
