word suggestion in android 2.2 sms

In the original android 2.1 on my GEN 1 phone, I had a word suggestion when I'm typing sms, it dosent look like that I've got it on my phone now after android 2.2? And do I have to install this swype thing as an app?

Well i dont remember if the stock app had word suggestion in 2.1 but there are many third party keyboard apps you can try with word suggestion.

Try Gingerbread Keyboard from the Market or SwiftKey.
