Guest Komiket Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 I recently gave installing the new Honeycomb beta a shot and stupidly forgot to wipe my Vega first. Of course the thing refuses to boot and hangs at the "Android" text that comes up on screen. I'm trying to reset the thing back into 1.09 so I can start again, but whenever I boot the thing into recovery and install the drivers from the official site (not the first time I have done this) I get the message "This device failed to start..." from the device manager. I've tried using the Audi driver installer, but even when it's plugged in and in recovery, the program says that it isn't. Can anyone give me any suggestions? (BTW running Windows 7 64 bit)

(BTW running Windows 7 64 bit) Aarrrggghhh. What does it say in the opening post of the AUDI thread? [uPDATE]. v0.8 is in the download link. It now supports XP and Windows 7 64 bit. However, there is a problem with the "what mode am I in?" indicator. It might say that you are not in recovery or ADB mode when in fact you are. If you do see an unexpected result and you want to install the drivers anyway, just go ahead and click "Next Step" and select what you want to do.] What's the point of doing all this work and writing instructions when so many people firckin don't read them? Let AUDI install the drivers anyway.

But even when I skip the step and install the drivers it didn't help (probably should have mentioned that one.) It says it was successful but the driver hasn't been installed and the Vega still isn't recognized.

Do you see APX or Nvidia Harmony?

Guest simonta Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Neither, I get unknown device. Then you are not in recovery. First things first, you will see nothing on the Vega, not even the backlight. The only way to know you are in recovery is the presence of APX or Nvidia Harmony. Keep trying to get into recovery. It will do it eventually, needs patience, practice and variation of timing. If you see NVidia Harmony, then the correct drivers are installed. If you see APX, run AUDI again. Alternatively, search for YAUDIG.

This isn't the first time I've had to do this.

I've tested recovery drivers on many PCs now, never seen unknown device. Right click it, select properties->details->hardware IDs. Is the Vendor ID 0955 and the product ID 7820?

It's odd, the thing had to run out of battery and then when I recharged it and tried again it recognised it as Nvidia Recovery. Audi recognised it after that, and so did the standard vega recovery exe. Just FYI I'm using windows 7 64 bit and the Vendor ID and Product ID matched the ones you listed when I tested them earlier. Weird right? Anyway, thanks for all the help everyone, really appreciate the quick responses!
Guest simonta Posted May 15, 2011 Report Posted May 15, 2011 Nothing odd about it. The Vega will not allow the recovery device to start if you don't have the charger in and/or the battery is lower than about 60%. It's to stop it losing power during a flash. That's why the instructions say to do it with the charger plugged in. If you'd have read the instructions, and followed them, it would have saved a lot of time and space
