Hardware Upgrading

Basically, I have completely badword my vega.

Started off with a simple rip of the ribbon for the capacitive screen, followed by an attempt to detach and resulting in 1/4 of screen cracked, While in the middle of all this, the fragile power supply looses a couple of cables.

I go apeshit, and rip the battery to shreads (for the lols).

So some piictures. Taken from a ZTE Blade so apologies.

So, can 1) The screen be replaced with a higher resolution one (I hear of some success recently)...

2) The battery, am I buggered, or can I get alternatives.

3) Can we do silly thingd likr upgrade the webcam?

4) How about attaching some SSD as well? Or a usb3 hub (pcie slow)? Not too fussed about the 3g (tethering) myself, but a powered USB port would be shweet.

You can plug into the pcie slot whatever fits into a pcie slot. Question is if Android supports it. And I think there will be not much. Even the internal 3G modem is recognized as an USB device, so my feeling is the pcie slot is not a full working one.

The motherboard in the tablet has no expansion slots, not for modules nor for additional memory. I saw somewhere a post where the USB was rerouted to a USB hub, but I am not sure what's the use of this.

Replacimg the screen can be done and has been with an identical model, if a suitable higher res screen was available then it should work but you would need a spec sheet to check it out. You should be able to order a replacement battery either identical or one with the same output that will fit inside. Getting the pci-e slot to work is a different question you would have to check out what android can support in that respect. And vegas only have the adapter to connect a pci module not the module itself only some of the other brands that sell 3g versions have it but if you can source a supplier i would love to know.

Give the forum a search i remeber discussing it not too long ago with some replacing a screen.

Adding in an internal usb hub has promise or rewiring the pdmi socket for internal use for adding new internal devices has been considered. The main advantage of the internal hub is usb device support so you can add usb 3g and ssd storage without dealing with compatibilty issues. It also means that you can have multiple functions and a usb hub has a smaller footprint than pci modules. But its hard to do as it borks the usb port you would have to see if the vega could connect slave through a hub the reconnect the standard uab via one of the hub ports not through the board. Unless you can find a second usb on the board or steal one off the pdmi then it would be simples.

i didn't think the vega had the adapter at all, so there was no way to add 3g other than with a doogle.

The Vega doesn't have it, only some pov Mobii tablets. My original WSL XVision (another clone) didn't have it as well. Seems that only pov Mobii has the adapter to pcie modules without the 3G modem, other tablets seem to have either none adapter or the complete adapter + 3G modem (like my new Viewpad 10s).

By adapter i meant socket for connecting the mini pci, sorry for the confusion. It is possible to add in the mini-pci to a vaega you just need to source a comoatible one.

from what's been said about the vega and 3g, there is only a edge connector, which need a extra cable/board which you will never be able to get.

i've not heard of anyone with a vega, who has added it.

Yup thats why I mentioned to let people know if one can be sourced. You can purchase spare parts for most parts of the vega from Asia direct so its not impossible just more difficult.

Android has a limited hardware support but Ubuntu doesn't.

Ubuntu on Vega

I have a mini PCI-e sata controller i'm to use in the my Vega and trying turn in into a NAS (just for the fun of it). The hardware is up and running but my wifi connection isn't working in Ubuntu. I have order a USB 1Gb LAN stick to replace the Wifi connection but it hasn't arrived yet.

With you broken display using your Vega as a very fast NAS it could be a thing for you.
