Guest eebobobo Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 Hello all. I unlocked my brothers SF today. It worked fine (although I could get no data connection with that Vodafone SIM card in). But he has no data allowance on his plan anyway, so I guess that is the reason? Anyway, my main problem is this. When I put the Orange SIM back in, I have a couple of issues. The data connection shows to be on, showing 3G or 3G+. However when I try to browse to web pages I get an ICAP protocol error and that the requested URL could not be retrieved. I am not sure if this is APN related so I had a look at the sticky on the forum that refers to APN details, but it looks to be correct. They are as follows. Under APN I have 2 options, (I am sure there was only one at first) they are Orange Internet and Orange SUPL UK. When I tap on the first one (Orange internet) the name in there is Orange Internet and the APN is orangeinternet. All the rest are <Not set> until it gets to MCC, which has a value of 234, then MNC which is 33. Authentication type is PAP or CHAP and APN type is default. When I tap the second, it looks quite similar, with the name being Orange SUPL UK and the APN the same being orangeinternet. All the rest is the same as in the first option apart from the APN type which is 'supl'. If I enable this second one then I lose the data connection right away, so I assume this one is no use anyway, I just don't know why it is there. On both of the options, when I tap to go into the setings, they are all greyed out and I cannot alter any of them. If I press the hard Menu key, I have the options to add a new APN or to Reset to Default. I was unsure if I should use the reset in case of the possibility of locking the handset back to Orange. Not sure if this is a risk? The other thing is when I try to connect to Market. When I try to connect to this now it wants me to enter the password because 'You entered the wrong password or your account has changed'. It only started doing this after the unlock. Thing is, my brother like a turd did not make a note of his password, and there is no option on that screen to retrieve it. Is there anything I can do about this once I get the network issue sorted out? Thanks in advance.
Guest Pondlife Posted May 18, 2011 Report Posted May 18, 2011 (edited) Resetting the apn to default wouldn't relock the phone though not sure it will help. (Even if it could relock it (it can't) you know how to unlock it anyway) If you can wifi onto the market (once access is sorted) there's an app with all the APNs on (well probably more than one app but this is one I had :P ) :- All Operator APNs | Beta by Tweakker I think you can delete the google account in settings -> account and sync settings by clicking on the account in question and picking remove account might let you set up a new account after that and get back to the market. If you are planning on changing the ROM you get the chance to set up new account (or log into one you know password for) once you have net access and launch market when new ROM boots (need gapps installed too if using CM7) Edited May 18, 2011 by Pondlife

However, it seems that a ridiculous coincidence occurred. I had been using my handset only 1 hour before, also on Orange, and all was well. After posting my problem, I had to go out for a while, and while out I tried to use my handset and started to get the same problem. I phoned my wife and she was getting the same, also on Orange. So it seems it was a local mast problem or something. Under the circumstances I naturally assumed it was connected to what I had done, but it seems not. :P
