Transfering contacts between devices

Hi,

I just picked up a new android phone (a Desire Z) and need to move my contacts from my old Android phone (hero). As my google mail account is used a lot I saved my contacts on to my "phone" (easier to find people) so I am assuming I will need to transfer them off and back on again as they'd not be synced anywhere. I'm assuming the easiest way is using HTC sync? or is there a better way?
