hi guys,

thanks in advance for your help!

If its installed with Clockwork mod then flashing a new rom would fix your issue, but if not i'm not so sure. I know that after a while you get prompted for your gmail settings so you can unlock it but they aren't yours so that is no help.

thanks for your input, i dont think Clockwork mod is installed on it... if i turn the phone on whilst holding down - vol, i see and android robot for about a second or 2 then a white rectangle with FTM written in the middle...

the phone seems to let me try and guess the unlock pattern as many times as i like, however after every 5 attempts it makes me wait 30 seconds before trying again... i wonder just how many different ways there is to connect 4 dots on a 9x9 grid... i could be trying this for days and days :P

Flash clockworkmod via fastboot...

It will either be in the clockwork thread or the rom installation threads.

Changes are its a Gen 1 but flash Swedish spring to be on the safe side (one file works withmh both Gen 1 and Gen 2)

ok so ive worked out what im supposed to be doing... but when i connect the phone to my computer, it displays a usb device not recognized alert, and when i try and use fastboot through the command prompt, it just shows "waiting for device" indefinitely... do i need to install a driver beforehand or something? thanks

There is always the method too flash CM7 and update your phone to GEN2 all you need to do is copy the folder over to your SD card and boot with power and vol +

install drivers http://android.modaco.com/content/forum/32...a-win7-x86-x64/ should work fine after that

thanks for the responses guys, i downloaded the drivers from the link you provided, installed them and it doesnt seem to have made any difference, still getting the unrecognized popup...

ColdEmbrace, i took a look at the link you posted, but i wasnt too sure about it... i cant work out whether the english isnt very good, or im just not understanding it properly!

as far as i can see, i copy the files all onto the SD card and go from there... will this work whatever version of the phone i have? i really dont want to brick it!

also, what are "nightlys" and TPTs? this is all very confusing :P haha, thanks for your help guys!

EDIT: also, whats this CM7 all about? do i want to make my device only able to load Gen2 ROMs?

CM7 is a great android distribution for your phone crafted by people who strive to make this system as reliable and ass good performance-wise as it gets. Some time ago the releases were unstable and had a lot of bugs, but now they are getting really reliable and efficient. Nightlies are releases of CM7 which are work in progress but since there has not yet been a stable release of the 'Stable' version (it's just a matter of time) and the new nightlies are more reliable then the previous, so called 'stable' releases, you should go with the more recent ones. I personally use the fixed N72, but N73 is known to work properly without problems.

There is also another really good rom out there - the Sweedish Spring 5. It is more stable as it's a 2.2 version of android. CM7 is 2.3 and has some useful features that the 2.2 version lacks, but it has been developed for a longer time and thus has less bugs. Go with whatever you think you like or try both and choose. You won't be disappointed with any of these.

You download the zip, extract it copy the folder to your SD card's root directory (meaning X:\ where X: being your SD card)

you boot the device using volume + and power button.

It states in the thread if you have a Gen2 device then it will not work, but if you have a Gen1 Device it will upgrade you. I know it's second hand where did you buy it from?

Nightlys are variations of the CM7 ROM running the latest version on Android 2.3.4. This is not to say this is for you, you might be more comfortable with a more stable ROM as SS5. I suggest this method purely because you have no access too the phone and it seems to me that the other methods maybe a little harder for you to get too grips with. The plus side of this method is that you can downgrade to Gen1 if you dislike Gen2.

I can only state that i am giving my opinion on matters and if I was in your position this is the method that I would have taken. I am not extremely knowledgable in these matters and I consider this the easiest route for my skill level. Please feel free too ignore anything I say if you feel it is of no help to you
