On my san francisco i have stock rom any chance to remove the orange splash at the start

Will it work on 2.1

Yes, it works with any ROM. All you need is ClockWorkMod Recovery 3.x.x.x. Splash image is no way related to ROM, they are located in different partitions (/splash vs /system).

There are also different methods and alternative images. Please read the thread I linked before.
