Guest tim1964 Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 Did a search but can't seem to find what anything specific enough. :P I have managed to set up incoming email on the Vega with BT internet (Infinity) but cannot get the outgoing to work. It says "connection error" when trying to send and having tried all combinations of the security settings and various port settings, still no joy. Can anyone tell me what the settings need to be? Thanks,
Guest tim1964 Posted May 20, 2011 Report Posted May 20, 2011 (edited) Just found this................ Basic server settings for BT Yahoo! Mail: Incoming Mail (POP3) Server - mail.btinternet.com Port (usually specified in 'Advanced settings') - 110 Outgoing Mail (SMTP) Server - mail.btinternet.com Port (usually specified in 'Advanced Settings') - 25 Account Name/Login Name - Your email address (including the "@btinternet.com" or "@btopenworld.com" part) Password - Your BT Yahoo! password Please note: if your client does not support SMTP authentication, you will not be able to use it to send your BT Yahoo! Mail messages. Is that the issue? Edited May 20, 2011 by tim1964
Guest trevor432990 Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 Found this old reply from simonta to a similar question:- "You should be using these, bet you didn't change the port number... • Incoming Server: pop3.live.com • Incoming Port: 995 • SSL Encryption: yes • Outgoing Server: smtp.live.com • Outgoing port: 25 (use port 587 if the default port is not working) • Authentication: yes • TLS Or SSL: yes " Might be worth tweaking your settings according to the above and see what happens :P
Guest Stevonator Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 (edited) Hey, I used to have to set BT Internet Email up for my colleagues, however that was approximately six months ago and I can't recall the precise procedure. However what I do want to say is setting up BT Email on iPod and iPad is an absolute nightmare. The point I wanna give is, outlook works fine, however other Email clients don't seem to like talking to BT servers. In majority of cases I had to point them towards the web mail client. Mate I remember having the exact same issue as you, I could receive messages off the incoming POP server, but for the life of me whenever I tried to send a message using the outgoing SMTP server it just wouldn't go. Contacting BT concerning the issue was unsuccessful, so if all else fails use the webmail. S Edited May 21, 2011 by Stevonator
Guest tim1964 Posted May 21, 2011 Report Posted May 21, 2011 Thanks Trevor, I set the outgoing to smtp.live.com (never would have found that) and set TLS (SSL didn't work) and it's sending emails now as well as receiving. Top job.
