I'm in the exact same boat. It's not too bad at home (got enough 3G allownance) but really frustrating when travveling abroad.

What mod are you on? I'm on flb r5a and thinking of trying whether a different one will solve the problem.

What type of router do you have? Which ROM are you running? More details about the problem, what happens exactly?

Swedish Spring RLS5

Go to connect to Any WiFi Network and it goes Authenticating --> Obtaining IP --> Disconnected --> Scanning and loops.

The only way i have solved this is to reboot the router when it doesn't connect then its fine for a couple of days and it does it again. This is a big problem when trying to use WiFi when out of the house as i cant just go reboot the router.

Running perfect here on FLB R11, connecting to Virgn Media superhub. What encryption are you using?

In my case Siemens, but it has happend at work, on a trip to Mauritius at severl peopels palce (very annoying when you pay 7.50/MB) and at a work trip in Paris recently. It also seems fine for everybody else when this happens :P

Currently WPA-PSK/WPA2 PSK, but it also did it ehn I tried WEP. The only other option in my router is to switch encryption off and then it works flawlessly, but of course we don't really want that :P

This has happened temporarily to me before, some routers have authenticating issues. Have you tried disabling and enabling WiFi when it occurs.

This does help for a little while but imagine popping down to the hotel reception 'o can you please reset your wifi router?' Or at a foreign institute on a visit...

And yes i have tried turning it on and off again. Isnt that always the first thing to do? :L

I meant on the phone, turning WiFi off and then on again, not the router

That is what i meant also. i know the router isnt broken. But im guessing the phone is pretty cheap and just cant connect to all of them...

turning the phone on/off doesn't make any difference nor does turning the wifi on/off.

And Gunnerzz perhps but I have yet to find a single PROTECTED network I CAN connect to.

Unprotected is fine and turning my phone into a mifi (using as wif access point & connecting to it from my laptop using teh 3g) is fine as well EVEN WITH WPA2 :P

I can connect to my home WiFi most of the time now. And most open networks. Just the other protected ones like you say. Ive read that it is the protection that causes the problem but obviously you cant go round changing everyone's security type...

Just a tip. I thought I had this problem when I moved from my old blade (borked touchscreen) to a replacement blade. I had forgotten that the access point was set up to allow connections only from particular MAC addresses: and of course my new phone had a new address. Once I remember that, all was OK. Now, I am not saying anyone here has this problem, but it may be worth thinking about if you ever need to replace your phone.

thanks for the thought though I don't use it as it adds no security (phishing out a mac address from communications & then faking it is trivial) but a lot of hasstle.

I had the exact same problem (running MDC r12 though) since I got my Blade, with my Cisco/Linksys router. Tried everything I could (and it was a LOT - many customization options - I am a sys admin btw) and nothing seemed to remedy it. Best thing I got was to delay the appearance of the problem.

Switching routers to a lower-end Thomson one solved my problem! What finally seems to have been the problem is the IP lease time. My Cisco router never allowed a lease over 3 days (and it didn't even honour that). Thomson has a 59-days built-in limit (non-changeable I think), and since I switched to it 7 days ago, I never had that issue again.
