Guest TCTUK Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 OK, So I've been running CM7 stable on my GEN1 for about a month now. I really like it but what I don't like is how battery hungry it is and the impact it seems to have had on the performance of the GPS unit. Can any of you give me a few words on which 2.3 ROM you are running and how you feel it performs in relation to: 1. Usability (Functionality, Bugs etc) 2. Battery Consumption 3. GPS performance 4. Anything else you care to share. Don't stick to this format if you don't want to and if you are really keen on a particular 2.2 ROM rather than 2.3 then I'd be interested to hear about that too. Please don't reference existing threads where this has 'all been covered before'. I want up to date information and opinions from you. :P
Guest Stephen J. Knill Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 (edited) There is only one 2.3 rom Hmmz, I've managed to slide into the Blade section again I see... fair enough I recall my comments. The Mod'd 2.3 I was referring to is mine btw, which is for the LG GT540 not the ZTE Blade. Edited May 22, 2011 by Stephen J. Knill

Pretty much no bugs so far aside from the Dialer one. 2.) Get at least 24 hours as long as the dialer isn't draining. Some apps also cause drain so check spare parts for usage. 3.) Excellent, after the first reboot it actually managed to lock on within 10 seconds indoors. 4.) Really smooth performance whether gaming or browsing internet or typing for example.
Guest Pondlife Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 There is only one 2.3 rom Darn should have finished catching up with the forum before writing that, there's another one now but much of it is the same as CM7 http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...m-cm7-in-1-hit/

(check the CM7 wiki in my signature to see the bug's left on GEN2)
Guest ValiantSaint Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 I'm currently using the latest SS ROM (Gen 1 phone) What's the easiest way of getting from SS to the latest 2.3 ROM? (Oh should I just wait? As I'm not going to be using the phone until the middle of next month, as my Vodafone contract isn't finished yet.......) Thanks : )

Thanks : ) depends what gen you are atm... if gen2, wipe and flash the latest nightly (see my sig) if gen1, either flash a full cm7 gen2 upgrade tpt, or flash to gen2 then flash the nightly from clockwork. both can be found in wbaw's (pinned) gen2 tpt thread.

(check the CM7 wiki in my signature to see the bug's left on GEN2) Firstly thanks to everyone who has taken the time to reply so far. Now, I'm interested in upping to GEN2 but I'm concerned about working the phone back to a stock ROM in the event that I need to return it to Orange under warranty. So I have two questions... How risky is it when upping to GEN2? How easy/possible is it to revert from GEN2 to GEN1?

How risky is it when upping to GEN2? How easy/possible is it to revert from GEN2 to GEN1? Fear not, I've been well behaved and answered the questions myself :P I read the guide for for the GEN2 CM7 TPT very carefully and came to the conclusion that the risks were minimal. Low and behold I'm now running GEN2 CM7 on the latest nightly. If anyone else has considered doing the same but has been worried about bricking their phone, then fear not it is relatively simple. If you have flashed a ROM onto your phone before then this really isn't much harder, just be sure to read before you do anything. I'll come back to this thread to see if the battery consumption and GPS capability is improved, reduced or remains the same.

Guest ValiantSaint Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Hi. What is the best version of this ROM to use at the moment? And how hard is it to go from a SS ROM to a Gingerbread one on a Gen 1 phone, cheers : )

It'll automatically flash CM7 stable but do a full wipe and install one of those nightlies.
Guest shad0wboss Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 Your wish has come true. A new gingerbread rom

(Sorry for being a noob) And out of the N83 or N78, which is the more stable and best for battery life? Thanks : )
Guest Anil k Solanki Posted May 23, 2011 Report Posted May 23, 2011 (edited) Your wish has come true. A new gingerbread rom There is nothing new in the code base of this ROM, it is simply a customised install, Cyanogen's weakness' (bugs) and strength's are all still there. This is from an eager fan, nothing more. If you really want Gingerbread then pure Cyanogen is the only way to go. Anil. Edited May 23, 2011 by Anil k Solanki

Thanks : ) No need to apologise. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...r-easy-install/ That above is the link to the TPT method which will upgrade your phone to Gen 2. I didn't use it myself so if you have any questions regarding it it's probably best to ask in that thread. It has step by step instructions. You can also use the converter here: http://www.mediafire.com/?z2jajk9sfgbidm8 So the first method upgrades your phone to Gen 2 and you can revert (apparently it's fairly easy if you follow the instructions) but do check. It will install CM7 Stable but that's outdated so try the latest Nightly which is N83: http://download.cyanogenmod.com/?type=nigh...mp;device=blade Just flash via recovery. Full wipe. The second method is the full wipe via recovery (after a Nandroid!) and then flash the Nightly 83. Then flash the converter file before you boot up. Note: this method won't upgrade your phone to Gen 2. And now you should be enjoying CM7. Edited May 23, 2011 by k0zmic
