Guest me00lpw Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 Hi, My first post here and I'm not sure if this has already come up previously; however, some time ago (a month or more) after on several occasions my phone died within half an hour of an overnight charge, I discovered that when using the standard Orange charger my phone makes a whining noise on charge. N.B. I'm currently in Europe, so there's a chance this is a factor (I didn't notice the problem in the UK), even if this does seam unlikely to me. I've since only charged off other devices USB ports and the battery is now reliable (even if I think we'd all like it to last a little [or a lot] longer). Next time I'm back in the UK I'll be popping into an Orange shop and trying to get a new charger. Now I just need to upgrade from 2.2 to 2.3 to properly fix Wi-Fi (I work arround it using WiFi Analyser at the moment) and get a little more internal memory freed up. Hope my observations help someone and that I'm not repeating something everyone already knows. Regards, me00lpw
Guest me00lpw Posted May 22, 2011 Report Posted May 22, 2011 I should add, the whine can only be heard with your ear to the back of the phone (case off makes it easier to hear) and isn't present when charging via a usb port rather than the standard charger. Anyone else getting this and also suffering similar problems?
Guest raggedstone Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 I should add, the whine can only be heard with your ear to the back of the phone (case off makes it easier to hear) and isn't present when charging via a usb port rather than the standard charger. Anyone else getting this and also suffering similar problems? Getting very similar problems. Phone is not charging properly on original mains charger. Charges up to around 95% after an overnight charge, then discharges around 50% after a few hours on standby (Wifi and data off). I've tried all sorts including re-setting battery stats, but I've recently come to the conclusion that the mains charger is to blame after getting a seemingly better charge of the feeble USB port of the work desktop. Another symptom is that the mains charger is failing to charge enough to light the green indicator light. The desktop has managed this now. I've ordered a generic micro usb charger from ebay for a few quid, rather than trying to argue with the Orange store people. I think that could be a rather long and painful discussion, and life is too short.
Guest raggedstone Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 I've also downloaded battery monitor widget, which you can use with Elixir 2 to monitor battery voltage. The mains charger appears to be incapable of charging over 3.8V or so. Full charge is 4.2V ish usually for Li-ion batteries. After a while the phone seems to think that 3.8V is fully charged, which is obviously isn't, then you get the battery % plummetting even without much current drain.
Guest Davidoff59 Posted March 12, 2012 Report Posted March 12, 2012 I would also check your battery isn't starting to swell, just to be on the safe side. It should sit flat on a flat surface. Any rocking back or forth and your battery is failing.
