OMG I'm having one of these for my birthday on June 2 after begging my parents for one! I'm like you, the moment I saw it I was like WOW, surely there's some kind of mistake, but there wasn't :P Absolute steal!

Amazon are doing a 2TB version for only £61!

That's a whole 'nother terabyte for 20 quid!! (course, it only has to burst once for the whole gazillion photos/films/songs/etc to be goosed)

It's not so long since I bought one half as big for twice as much

It's not so long since I bought one half as big for twice as much

I'm dubious enough about trusting my data to a 1Tb drive, let alone a 2Tb drive. I've set the 1Tb as my OS drive, and the 500Gb I had, as the render drive (I do After Effects & Premiere Pro, Photoshop etc).

I'd rather have striped raid, for larger quantities of data.

I eouldnt recomendjust one drive as a back up anyways, having at leasta raid1 set up is a good idea though if your capable, I dont know about the elements series but I can tell you the passport series have had the sata connection removed and replaced with a weird ass connection that has to be proprietary.

Ive worked for pcw for a long time as a tech guy and now a knowhow clinic specialist, too many people trust portable hdds and dont understand how prone to damage they are, be it knocks, the loose usb points or picking it up while its on and scrapping the disks.

You work for PC World? You must be on good money/a lot of drugs (I lean toward the latter :D). WTH is a "knowhow clinic specialist"? If I worked for PCW (read: that would never happen) I'd have to recommend to customers that they leave the store and shop elsewhere. I'm sure you can improve your skills and get a job where you can use your skills to their full potential? I have zero computing qualifications, and often get £100-150+ per hour working for a famous film director fixing/maintaining/configuring his Macs & various other periphery, and scanning documents. 'Tis not what you know, but who, quite often.

I respect your choice of employment immensely - you must have the patience of a saint to work for those monkeys, and deal with the public with their silly questions...

Surely you mean a mirrored raid if you are worried about data, not a striped one which increases the risk of data loss. But that wouldn't allow you to have one free for rendering...
