Wi-Fi stops working after a few hours...

Hi,

Small problem but a bit annoying... I don't always have Wi-Fi enabled, I enable it manually when i need it, either at home or at work, but after a few hours (probably around a day - 24hours) it stops working ie I can't enable it. When i try to enable it nothing happens, sometimes the popup that shows the networks appears, but it has nothing on it beside "Add a new network". If i go to the Wi-Fi settings it says "Error" right below "Wi-Fi".

Reboot and all is OK for another 24h. Right now I'm running Fr17b3 with stock baseband 1035.21_20110218. Before that i was running stock v10b and i believe it also happened...

Any ideas?

Cheers!

i already opened a thread about this. not many others on the forum seem to have this problem and I think my phone is going back to the shop.

Well, could it be baseband related? Seeing as it happened with stock v10b and it happens with Fr17b3, the only thing that did not change was the baseband, but i don't know if that's in any way related to the wi-fi. if not baseband, could it be hardware-related? should i send it back?

I updated my baseband to 1035.21_20110502 last night, and im testing now... will post back with the results.

The baseband I was using previously was: 0405 (V10d)

If I cant get this sorted soon I'll be nvflashing it back to standard and sending it to LG.

I find when my wifi breaks the battery meter also stops working and it drains in a few hours.

I have WiFi "Error" message too after some usage.

Didn't notice the part about the battery meter. I'll see if it happens to me too.

Meanwhile looking forward to se if your baseband upgrade worked or not.

Cheers!!

Well so far no problems with the new baseband. But my hopes aren't high yet as it worked all last week before screwing up 6 times over the weekend.

With the new baseband the phone feels abit smoother too and battery life is amazing. i last charged it at 7am yesterday and i now have ~40% remaining (with light usage to be fair and aeroplane mode over night) so can easily see two days now.

now can ANYONE who is reading this thread (if your phone has problem or not) just let me know how long it takes for your wifi to activate? I know it seems stupid but might help me try to work the issue out.

I just want to know does the wifi always come on straight away after clicking "enable" or does it take ~3-5 seconds sometimes?

It takes a few seconds over here as well, both under MCR Fr16 and under the ROM I'm currently trying out from another cooker (don't know if that's OK to mention in here) -- the issue described is present on that other ROM as well, which is Gingerbread-based, so I suspect it's not necessarily a software issue... unfortunately.

I think it is a problem with the wireless driver. I noticed I didn't have problems with it on the eternity kernel as he uses an updated driver. Also, it depends what access point you are connected to. For me, At home the phone stays connected just fine. At work it disconnects when the screen is off and the access point becomes disabled in the settings for me.

What is version of Eternity kernel? I have "Error" on v1.4 too. "Error" has been result also, if access point are enable or disable. This is trouble on O2X side.

Disconnentions (after 5-6 minutes at sleep) was on ASUS RT-N56U and D-Link DIR-320, but on Zyxel P-330W EE all is Ok. Static IP configuration (at O2X side) are resolve disconnection trouble, but this is not beautiful.

It is definitely a problem with the phone but I don't think it is a hardware issue. Just shitty drivers as with most of the stuff that shipped with the phone.

Still no trouble with the new baseband?

When I press enable it takes a few seconds, sometimes it connects right away, sometimes the networks window pops up briefly while it's connecting

completely different problem to the one we are having. this problem probably is software.

not any problems yet! sometimes it takes up to 6 seconds to enable the wifi, other times it takes only a second, which I find weird. not sure if it is related or not.

last week it worked great all week though until the weekend, so im going to just keep seeing how it goes. the phone is noticably smoother for me on this baseband though!

Hmmm... interesting... Perhaps i should upgrade mine... One question though, if i upgrade baseband and then go back to my stock v10b, will it work?

Cheers!

no idea. i know the baseband works fine with V10d as thats the rom im still using now.

after flashing the baseband, i used clockworkmod to clear cache, dalvik cache, data, everything and then formatted both the internal and external sd card

so EVERYTHING gets lost! bear that in mind :P

@mankian: I'm currently on Slick2X-GB v4.9.6 (which, as mentioned before, is based on CM7 05232011 nightly), using the Eternity Project kernel (2.6.32.39), so I don't think the Eternity kernel prevents this issue... It is really irritating: you try to bake a ROM that has optimal battery efficiency, and then you have to restart your phone every once in a while to be able to use WiFi -- consuming the battery savings, hehe...

well i found the new baseband actually seemed to fix my wifi issue quite nicely.

my phones going back to the shop tomorrow for unrelated problems such as battery going from 70%-0 within 2 hours in aeroplane mode.

then on charge doing 1% p/hour.

really you can tell LG just rushed this peice of crap out just to say "yay we have the first dual core smartphone (or paperweight)" im really hoping they will let me swap it for an SGS2 or even an N8!

that might be related to wpa2 issue with wpa_supplicant.

mine with mcr rom had that issue.

at work, it sometimes connects, later gets disconnected and disable. sometimes it doesn't even connect.

and wpa2 issue with froyo wpa_supplicant is well-known issue, i believe.

i replaced /system/bin/wpa_supplicant with one from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=889106 and the connection is rock-solid. (although i haven't tested it for a long period, since i usually turned it off when not used.)

i'm bit surprised that paul hasn't fixed this.

Fixed this issue. Solution: return phone for a replacement.

O2X i have now does not have this problem, running v10b or v10d. seems like its a hardware fault!
