Help please needed!!

Have just purchased a new San Francisco from Orange, unlocked and rooted with help from this forum, installed new Tesco pay monthy SIM, activated it, but have no Data connection. Talking to Orange they tell me I have to install APN/ Gateway / Username / Password etc etc information and have supplied what I need.

However where / how do I do this - can find nothing in setting that allows me to input these data.

Any help much appreciated.

I'm surprised that Orange helped you with using a different carriers services...

Go into 'settings', 'wireless and networks', 'mobile networks', 'gsm/umts options', access point names', press 'menu' button, 'add new apn', then highlight and enter each of the settings you've been given by tesco.

My error - it was obviously Tesco that helped me with the data not Orange!

The menu structure in Mobile Networks is slightly different on my phone - i.e. gives

Data Connection

Data roaming

Network Mode

Use only 2G networks

Network Operators

Access Point Names

But as you suggest pressing Menu against Access Point Names gives me just what I need.

Much appreciated.....all now working, albeit with an Edge connection not the 3G that I had with Orange.

Good to hear its all working for you. I forgot that you would be on the stock orange rom, so the network settings would have a different menu structure. Edge should be faster than 3g anyway I think.

That might be down to current signal quality rather than a problem but I'd keep an eye on it.

On the same network (tesco monthly) curious as to what settings they gave you to put in

Edge should be faster than 3g anyway I think.

Thought Edge was 2.5g, so think it should be slower.

Pondlife - you have a message with Tesco settings.

Have also checked at www.02.co.uk/coveragechecker# and G3 here is poor on their network
