You probably had things running like a lot of apps and your wifi and data and screen etc. Check to make sure nothing is running that shouldnt be

Make sure your battery stats are calibrated too.

How do I do that? Also are there power saving apps that disable apps automatically. Go bare bones.

Thanks, trying this. I would really like though if there was some kind of power management software I can install. I remember seeing some somewhere but can't remember where.

I may try installing 2.3 again but it'll be a nightmare trying to back everything up, all my contacts and apps etc.

JuiceDefender claims too help battery life but with the blade turning WiFi off when the screen is off im not so sure on that it does.

Your contacts would be synced with Google if you put them under your Google Account and automatically restored. If you set Settings > Privacy > Backup application data and Automatic restore then when you install a 2.3 ROM they should re-download automatically.

You could also use MyBackupPro or Titanium Backup to backup your apps and data (e.g. game saves.)

SS is a battery drain in itself. This is compared to battery on stock, FLB and JJ. This is MY experience.

I installed SS5 and the SF wouldn't even last a day on the battery - same apps as I had on the stock ROM where I could get 2 days out of the battery. I even recalibrated the battery under SS but it made no difference. I am now trying FLB Gingerbread themed ROM and all seems good so far.

gen 1? if so, dialer may be draining the battery and issue seems to be fixed by moving to gen 2.

personally i went back to FLB...the smoothest and most battery efficient froyo rom IMO.

Thanks, I may try upgrading to 2.3 soon. Is there any way to stop dialer from draining the battery?

I left it on last night, not doing anything and the battery was dead when I woke up, despite it having about 20% left.

I was having serious trouble goijng fro MGen 1 to Gen 2 though, if someone could post an easy guide that'd be great.

I think there is a misunderstanding here.

  • The type of ROM will typically have negligible impact on battery life (unless you use beta ROMs like Cyanogen that may contain bugs causing drain).
  • If you really get better battery on ROM A compared to ROM B, chances are very high that during reinstalling your dozens of applications you changed something (for example, left that one small application away that caused all the drain :D ).
  • "Power management software" might help with specific problems, but in general it will not cure app-related problems, especially related to buggy/stuck apps. How should it? If some app goes haywire and hogs the CPU, no "power management software" can help since it cannot tell whether the app is using a lot of CPU for good reasons (games, for example) or just because it's stuck in some infinite loop.

The display, WiFi, 3G, BT etc. all use the same "power" irrespective of ROM. One ROM against another cannot use less power, say, lighting the screen at a certain brightness than another.

User settings, user misunderstanding and misbehaving apps or driver modules cause battery drain issues. And not letting battery usage and normal charge/discharge cycles over time settle.

So how does one explain 4 days of battery life on one ROM and 2 days of battery life on another ROM with same apps, settings and use?

I can tell you that before I rarely saw 4 days of battery life with light use on my Blade (only 2 ROMS resulted in that as far as I know - Modaco r12 and Sweedish Spring 4).

Virtually every other ROM I tried (with same settings, apps and nearly identical use) resulted in 2 days of battery life or less.

I use the same apps and settings across ROMs. I've tried SS for fresh two or more times and it always gives me poor battery life compared to FLB or JJ. I can spend my life carrying out thorough tests but I can't be bothered when it is obvious from my experience. This is echoed by many people though not the other way around. You may be right, but for someone like me the end result is all I need to care about.

Please try to reach an agreement concerning Swedish Spring. :D

Is it possible to Undervolt an Android phone? That would seriously increase battery life as well as longetivity.

The phone CPU is in suspend mode for most of the time. The CPU draws a minuscule amount of power then anyways. You can see yourself: Put the phone in airplane mode and see how long the battery keeps up (which is very long). Conclusion: It's a phone after all, and staying connected to a radio network just takes some power. Undervolting will not help there.

Very true, putting it on airplane mode really saves juice.

indeed, my blade moves 0-1% in 24 hours on FLB while on airplane mode. but it's not exactly a phone then either :D

I just put it on airplane mode at night. No calls, notifications etc. to disturb me and it saves power.

Switched to FLB Gen2 from SS5. Battery drain gone.
