Guest bartmanekul Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 Hi, looking at getting an Advent tega since they look amazing value for money. However, the make or break thing is a charging stand. Basically it's main use is to sit in the living room and be always on, so I can just lift it off when I need it. I really don't want to be plugging/unplugging all the time. It doesn't have to be a dock, just something that holds it and charges with plugging in. I have heard tell of a dock on this forum, but for the life of me I can't find anywhere that sells it, including ebay or Dixons. Oh, and also - how easy is it to get honeycomb on there? Cheers.

The dock is available from PC World and Currys. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/advent-vega-...commercial.html Scroll down to accessories As for the Honeycomb port, the search button is your friend. :P Edited May 28, 2011 by Unipete
Guest bartmanekul Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 (edited) Edit: Actually, does anyone have a direct link? I still can't seem to get to it. Edit 2: No links to it work, if it's on the site the links are broken. I still can't get one. I feel like such an idiot. I did look on the site and a link simply sent me to the cases etc, nothing about any dock. Thanks for that, I'll probably get both now. :P Although if anyone does know of a cheaper stand that charges, I'd be interested. I'll look into the honeycomb thing, now I'll be buying one. Just wanted to know if it's something reasonably easy. The dock is available from PC World and Currys. http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/advent-vega-...commercial.html Scroll down to accessories As for the Honeycomb port, the search button is your friend. Edited May 28, 2011 by bartmanekul
Guest bartmanekul Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 The link is definately not working. It should be this: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/advent-docki...600795-pdt.html but it just sends you back to a main page. I emailed PC world about it, maybe they have to fix something.
Guest Unipete Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 The link workd for me. As far as I know the dock is the only 'stand' that charges the Vega at the moment. Installing newbe5's vegacomb rom is fairly straightforward but you must do a bit of reading up before you give it a go. This is the link. http://android.modaco.com/content/advent-v...nd-teamvillain/
Guest bartmanekul Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 Ok, that's really annoying - guess I'll download firefox or something and try it that way. Explains why I couldn't find it before though. Just been looking at that thread. It's interesting to say the least. Thanks for all your help so far.
Guest bartmanekul Posted May 28, 2011 Report Posted May 28, 2011 Link doesn't work in firefox either - what the hell? All I get is some generic accessories screen. Suppose I'll have to try it on another computer.

Suppose I'll have to try it on another computer. The link doesn't work for me either, but it did work when I looked it up about a week ago. Typical for it to. Break when I decided to buy one. Will try again tomorrow, wish the stores would stock them. Steven

Guest dadoftriplets Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 I am in the same situation - Finally decided to buy the Vega Dock - tired both the Currys and Dixons website, where I would've expected them to try and add it on as an add on sale, but they don't even stock the dock on the site. Try the PC world website, which only has a brief mention at the very bottom of a page, but when clicking on the link, it diverts me back to the home page or somewhere. Tried a few different browsers, to no avail. Typical isn't it - when you want to spend some money, you can't!
Guest ViPaSoft Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 I have a dock and it's great. But for portability, I bought a foldable iPod stand from Poundland. Fantastic. It holds the Vega portrait or Landscape and is adjustable, which makes the viewing angle easier to get just right.
Guest bartmanekul Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 (edited) Just got a response from PC world: Thank you for your email dated 28/05/2011 We are currently experiencing problems with this link on our website and I apologise for any inconvenience this may have caused. I have contacted our Internet Team and the problem will be rectified shortly. In the mean time, you could visit your nearest (PC World / Currys) branch and speak with our Sales Team who will be more than happy to assist. Hopefully it's soon. The dock has dissapeared from the site completely now. Edited May 29, 2011 by bartmanekul
Guest scarrie Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 Norwich PC World had them on the shelf last week :-) Si Got one from PCWorld in Stoke on Trent. Works very nicely with the extra usb operation on the back. Steven
Guest scarrie Posted May 29, 2011 Report Posted May 29, 2011 Dock is working great with keyboard and mouse by the way. Also can plug my SanFrancisco in to charge both it and tablet with one plug :D Steven
Guest bartmanekul Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Does it slip easily onto and off the dock? I.e. can you pull it off one handed, or have you got to hold the dock down and pull?
Guest Dave Marchant Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Does it slip easily onto and off the dock? I.e. can you pull it off one handed, or have you got to hold the dock down and pull? The dock is quite weighty and I find that I can pull it off without lifting the dock.
Guest yabbas Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 I'd be interested in selling my dock if you can't get hold of one. PM me.

Guest bartmanekul Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 Just incase anyone is still looking: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/gbuk/vega-tablet-...823989-pdt.html Unfortunatly I can only see it with a new Vega - not on it's own.

Guest CrArC Posted June 9, 2011 Report Posted June 9, 2011 I made a stand ;) Just heated a perspex sheet, put in a few bends, and voila. Five-minute construction. However (and this is interesting, may start a thread on this) the effect it has on the touchscreen is bizarre. It's fine on its ownm but plug in the power cordd while it's sat on the perspex stand and the toucchscreen goes crazy when you use it! My touchscreen usually behaves when plugged in, but I tested it with a multitouch test app and it was flickking and jjttering and registering cliicks all over theplace. The momment I lift it off the stand? Fine! Try and guess which parts of this post were written on the stand and whichh weren't :P Som I take it some materials can couple with the ccapacitance of the screen? Is thaat right?
