Hi,

I got this Blade from a friend at ZTE. The baseband is P729J_GENERICB01, build number P729J_2GW900V2.2.0B01.

This is a weird phone, I can't install anything from the market (even Astro file manager). Filer won't install any APK (it says "No corresponding application").

How can I root and change the ROM on this thing!!

Power+VolDown work, however recovery doesn't work (i.e. Power+VolUp)

Cheers,

Linuxman.

you do not need to root to flash a new rom.

put the phone in to fastboot mode (power and vol +)it should stay on the green android man.

then connect to your pc via usb. intall the fastboot driver. then flash a recovery image via fastboot.

then put a new rom on the sdcard.

then boot into recovery (power and vol -), wipe and flash the new rom.

done :D

EDIT: from your post, its not clear whether you are an expierenced android user. but going from you calling yourself 'linuxman' im guessing you are linux/android literate? if not, and you don't understand any of the above, do ask :D

Not only I'm gonna accept the *&^%$$ you wrote up there, but I'm gonna buy you a drink if you could come up with a solution :D. Otherwise, I'm free to get even :D

power vol+ shouldn't show anything so you are not likely to notice untill it finishes and reboots (as far as i am aware)

Actually Power/Vol+ do a normal reboot instead of going into recovery!!

In model B01 fastboot mode is disabled (vol up + power)

you need to install Z4root to root the phone

you need to install quick boot apk

run quick boot and hit reboot in bootloader mode

plug the blade in the putter

and run fastboot to flash clockwork

Unfortunately, I can't run any apk file. So, I really can't install z4root nor quick boot!! How do I fix this?

I might need to do a factory reset, but I looked around but couldn't find a way to do it.

OK, I got it, I found how to do factory reset, I did reset the device, now I can install z4root.

BTW, hugobosslives, I guess kids like you should never be allowed to great place like here. This place is for grown up, there are great guys everywhere on the net, on this forum, on this thread. You need to learn from such genuine people who tried very polity to help, not to make fun of people.

Cheers,

Linuxman.

ouch.

look im not getting in to sum petty argument. as i hate it when threads are cluttered up by people throwing insults at each other.

but for the record, i was genuinely trying to help you. i am sorry i forgot that fastboot is disabled stock on B01. I simply thought that you expected sumthing to come up on the screen when in fastboot mode (instead of the android man). i was not making fun of you. after i posted, i realised that if you were a newbie you might not understand my steps. therefore i asked if you were inexpierenced (no shame in being a newbie we all have been there). if you were, i was simply guna explain in a more detailed way.

i have helped quite a lot of people on this forum. and as such still get a couple of new people pm-ing me with their blade problems. i help them and then ask them, to in future, write a thread instead as then others can read (and benefit) from how to solve the same problem.

as you are new to modaco. we can let this drop. but in future please realise people may not be making fun of you (just like i wasn't) and genuinely trying to help you.

EDIT: oh and for the record, im not some 'kid' :D

Im still unsure how the phone will not install any apk, seems a little strange. in my opinion the only solution would be too factory rom the phone i dont know quite how vol + works but maybe that can help.

OK, here is the update.

But first, sorry to everyone for the unnecessary exchange between me and hugobosslives.

So,

- I did factory reset (this fixed the issue with apk can't be installed)

- z4root installed in a minute

- installed quick boot (thanks Phoenix Silver)

- installed Recovery Manager 0.36beta

Then I tried many recovery images (at least 4) through fastboot & RM. Finally I found a good site http://android.podtwo.com/recovery/ that had working CWM.

Now, I have rooted my blade + got CWM working :D. I'm free as a bird. Will go a head and play with different ROMs.

BTW, what's the difference between GEN1/GEN2 in terms of ROMs availability? Pigfish/Crocduck says I have GEN2.

Thanks everyone,

Linuxman.

The problem of new phones not booting with power+up is not new.

I had it on 2 new phones. Worse yet was the fact that universal androot was not able to root it.

I solved this by using adb to reboot to bootloader and to recovery:

adb reboot bootloader

adb reboot recovery

You do have to have the adb and usb drivers (assuming windows).
