Guest Faith44 Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 Hi, Bonjour. We are French in Shanghai for a while and we just bought a ZTE-U v880 Blade. All the ZTE Blade sold in China are customized "China Unicom" and we would like to change the ROM and put in a Custom ROM in (with) French. What ROM do you suggest ? What is the best way to do it ? (Dump, Root, etc..) Thank you very much in advance.
Guest Quu Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 CyanogenMod 7 should have French translations on it.

FYI, don't use any of the partition mod/ firmware upgrade on your unicom Blade. for they are not identical with V880 and it will brick ur phone to prepare the machine ready for flashing the rom: 1. root your machine with kk modified verion "Z4root" 2. then unlock the adb functions of u-880 : use the dialer to and enter engineer code : *983*87274# u will access the usb switch test press "All functions", grant the permission right as required 3. finally, may use KKs ' One click recovery V2 to install clockworkmod recovery then u might flash cm7 with clockworkmod recovery all the tools u need could be found in this forum. Hi, I have the same China's Unicom's ZTE Blade. I downloaded Z4root from my PC and tranfered it to my ZTE through the USB but when I try to install it with the "Filer" application I get this error message : "Parse error : There is a problem parsing the package". It does not work with Astro File Manager either. I tried downloading the Z4root .apk file from different locations, turning off the phone and removing the battery, "Unknown sources" is enabled in the Settings and I tried with "USB debugging" enabled too but still I get the same error. I also get this error when I try to install the One Click Recovery V2 application. I only got this error with those 2 application, I did not have this issue with the other applications I downloaded before so I don't think it is related to some kind of SD card malfunction. Can somebody please help me with this problem ? Thanks a lot in advance.

Guest King James MIA Posted June 2, 2011 Report Posted June 2, 2011 No my ZTE Blade is on Android 2.2

(for the action taken by the z4root is actually exploiting the system weakness. it is a virus in a certain sense.)

Thank you burstlam, I finally got it to work by disabling my anti-virus when downloading the file into my pc. Now z4root seems to be working fine. When you say root the ZTE Blade with z4root, you mean do a "temporary root" ? I assume that by "cm7" you mean "CyanogenMod 7" ? Just to be sure, in your opinion you think it is best for me to install the CyanogenMod 7 on my phone following those steps you told me to follow (root with z4root, unlock the adb functions, install clockworkmod recovery and flash with cm7) rather than installing "Swedish Spring RLS5" following StevenHarperUK's Guide (http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blade-roms-rom-customisation/335781/22-apr-guide-how-to-install-a-custom-rom-on-the-zte-u-v880-or-gen2-device/) ? I can assure u that the steps I give have been well tested with members of Chinese V880 user forum.

To save the factory ROM before rooting and installing CM7, for example ? Thank you for your advice.

To save the factory ROM before rooting and installing CM7, for example ? Thank you for your advice. actually u have to grant ur machine root permission before u install clockworkmod. so clockworkmod/third party Recovery is a must. (there is another option: AMON RA recovery) cwm recovery is updating with the development of CM project and it is easy to use. u are welcomed to ask questions any time, guys in this forum are helpful and supportive! Cheers, burstlam

Cheers, burstlam Thanks, but my question was about the ROM Manager.apk app http://www.appbrain.com/app/rom-manager/co...utta.rommanager http://www.android-software.fr/rom-manager to have your advice, if you know this app (editor ClockworkMod), if we could use it to do what we want to do (Save then install CM7 or Swedish), although it is said "for any Android root user", or "Cette application ne fonctionne que sur les mobiles qui sont “rootés”.", which means ?? Could you also answer the question : "Temporary" or "Permanent" root in Z4root, please ? Thank you again.

Rom manager deals with recovery installation, backup and download cm nightly-rom only. if u want to flash new rom or restore ur backup,u need to reboot into recovery mode Temporary root : reset to non root status after a reboot. Permanent root : stay rooted even u reboot. Edited June 10, 2011 by burstlam

Thanks simlply u may follow this guide. except that after root , get adb function unlock with the engineer code in 4th post in this thread. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...or-gen2-device/ I don't know what do u mean by backup existing data. simply use titanium backup for specific item. or use backup option in Recovery mode. if u want to restore to pre root option , simply go to this post and download the official update of China unicom. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-stock-updates/
