Ok, so step-son has a new Blade, and has managed within a day to pattern-lock the phone and forget the pattern.

Have tried bootloader using power on and volume up - doesn't play - just boots past android logo, to OS and pattern lock.

Tried adb to remove the pattern, but USB debugging not enabled on the phone.

I can get into FTM mode.

So, was wondering...

Is there a way to get into the bootloader on these newer phones, other than power on/volume up?

or

Is there a way to enable USB debugging while the phone is locked?

or

Is there something useful I can do in FTM mode?

or

Should I just take it back to the Orange shop, tail between legs?

Many thanks for any suggestions,

John

He didn't get round to doing anything useful like that - fortunately, his sister, who also managed to pattern-lock herself out of her new blade at least had the foresight to setup her google account.

Sadly, this one has no google account attached.

It does baffle me why people would skip the google account setup then lock out their own phone.

Seems like FTM might be your only option. Pelemane has the right idea and if you want too downgrade from Gen2 it's not so hard to do

Pretty sure the lock screen pattern/pin/passcode is to ensure that you can't get past it, Android disappoints me when you can find ways around it and fully use the OS. It's not quite like that on the Nokia N900, which is excellent IMO; a stolen phone remains unusable.

Android should really make it compulsary for the user to set up their Google account before setting the security on the phone.

In FTM mode you can update it to Gen2 with windows installer. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...-flashing-only/

You will lose everything in phones memory if you use this.

Ahh, great - this gives me another option. Their old man bought them the phones, and supervised the locking of them, so I'll let him have a try with Orange before I attempt this.

Given that I'm unable to consult Mr Pigfish, does it matter whether I go for a Gen1 or Gen2 firmware? I noticed that there are Gen1 ones too, and I assume this is a Gen1 phone given that it was bought in the UK. Is the "Stock Gen1" firmware the same as the current firmware, but with fastboot enabled?

And yes, I'm surprised that the lock can be circumvented, although not always easily it seems.

You are correct, but this is the new updated version and should be used instead. http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ded-gen2-blade/

Yeah but he said that pressing vol+ when booting does nothing so i guess it's new UK model and IIRC fastboot and TPT doesn't work on newest UK models when you try to boot with vol+ (or with vol+ and menu).

You can get to fastboot with apps but because of pattern lock it's impossible.

If it's UK model and it has Android 2.1 then it is Gen1.

Even if it is Gen2 that windows flashing tool doesn't break it.

AFAIK updating to gen2 enables fastboot on those new UK models too.

Check the link first. It's not TPT, it's newer version of the windows flasher. Updating to gen2 using my link will enable TPT and fastboot. Using old windows flasher will disable them.

After Orange and some geezer on the market had failed to unlock the phone I followed the advice given by Pelemane and KonstaT, and had a result in minutes (By following this: http://android.modaco.com/content/zte-blad...ed-gen2-blade/).

Many thanks for this suggestion, it was easy to follow and worked brilliantly. If anyone has the same problem, this was an effective solution.

Thanks again,

John
