Guest xyz321 Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) Hi Just got my new ZTE blade and is my first android. Am getting stuck at few points and would appreciate if someone can help: My phone is running Xenorom R2 and R3 + R4 jellyfish edition (bought from someone, who had already installed this) 1- After installing few things, at the top of the screen, on left side of clock/battery symbol there are a no of symbols showing how many files / apps have been downloaded. is there a way to remove this? 2- The background of the phone is black, is there a way to change this to other color. When using the phone outside in sunlight, its a bit difficult to see with black blackground. 3- Is there a way to completely disable mobile data. my current contract doesnt have any data and i dont want to use any mobile data . I only want to use with wi-fi. I have gone into settings and disable mobile data but not sure if that has completely stopped phone from using any mobile data, especially as i noticed below item no 6. 4- I put an old O2 simcard into this new phone and can not see any old messages at all. 5- When i go to Contacts- no contacts appear. Only when i go to the Call menu (i.e. trying to call someone) that i can see all my contacts stored in simcard. 6- When i go to gallery, it seems to show all my gmail account photos. Does this mean its downloaded those to my phone or everytime i browse these, the phone is connecting to internet to download these? Thanks a lot X Edited May 30, 2011 by xyz321
Guest Mushroom_Lord Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 1) Pull down the bar across the top (the "status" bar) and hit "clear notifications" "Jellyfish" is very dated now. That "series" of ROM's ended with release 9. And Kallt_Kaffee (their creator) has since released a new series "Swedish Spring" The most recent release being release 5. Look in the "Roms and Rom customization sub forum for more information 2)The background, do you mean the bar across the top (the status bar) or the "wallpaper" of your homescreen. Look in the "unified theme thread" if you mean status bar. If you mean wallpaper then just go home then hit menu, and click wallpaper, which can either be an "inbuilt" wallpaper (wallpapers), a user image (gallery) or a live wallpaper (moves, interactive, more available from the market) 3) Menu>settings>wireless and networks>mobile networks>"data enabled" 4) Old messages are likely to have been saved to your old phones memory, rather than the SIM card. 5) I'm not sure about this one, updating ROM may help, but so might transferring your contacts to your phones memory rather than SIM card. 6) Erm, Im not too sure :D I think it stores a low-res cache and needs data to re-download, im not sure, let me test.
Guest TheManicGibbon Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 1- After installing few things, at the top of the screen, on left side of clock/battery symbol there are a no of symbols showing how many files / apps have been downloaded. is there a way to remove this? Drag down the notification bar with your finger, and press the "Clear" button. 2- The background of the phone is black, is there a way to change this to other color. When using the phone outside in sunlight, its a bit difficult to see with black blackground. Menu key > Wallpaper > Gallery will allow you to pick an image from your SD Card, or one of the other options to use a wallpaper included in the ROM. If you have disabled data under Wireless & networks, it will not use any data. 4- I put an old O2 simcard into this new phone and can not see any old messages at all. Text messages are not stored on the SIM card. You may be able to back up your texts from your old phone depending on what type it is. Most phones come with software to do this. Google it, or tell us what your old phone was so we can suggest some software. 5- When i go to Contacts- no contacts appear. Only when i go to the Call menu (i.e. trying to call someone) that i can see all my contacts stored in simcard. Have you imported the contacts from the SIM card? 6- When i go to gallery, it seems to show all my gmail account photos. Does this mean its downloaded those to my phone or everytime i browse these, the phone is connecting to internet to download these? It has downloaded them, and will not be downloaded each time you browse. If they are updated online, your phone may download new copies when it next syncs over Wi-fi Hope this helps.
