Guest bpivk Posted May 30, 2011 Report Posted May 30, 2011 (edited) Change partition table, brick the phone, make it jump through hoops. What do you want to do because the possibilities are endless? Edit: Well not endless but you can do a lot with a rooted S-OFFed phone. Edited May 30, 2011 by bpivk

Hi, I've bricked the phone and sent it back to HTC for repair already, so I dont really want to do that again if I can help it. I have investigated playing about with kernels but am a little wary at the moment given that there is little info around with regards this. Played with the partitioning. Jumping through hoops is on my to do list, but is there anything else that will satisfy my urge to hack the htc desire?
Guest bpivk Posted June 5, 2011 Report Posted June 5, 2011 That's all I can think off apart from cooking your own rom. S-OFF has only two benefits that I know off. One is that you can alter the partition table which is really useful and the other is that you can delete system files (you had to do it from recovery before but now you can do it from anywhere). Using different kernels and flashing different roms is something that you do through recovery so you didn't have to S-OFF the phone just because you want to use a different kernel. The worst thing that will happen if you mess up with kernel image is that the phone will stay in a boot loop and you'll have to flash it again.
